Today I took my scooter out during a typhoon to see what it was like in Taichung city. I don't recommend doing this.

I like these episodes. I remember living in Taiwan over 20 years ago now. The funest 3 years of my life spent there. Great country. I hope they stay free and never get taken over by the communists. The mountains were amazing and I use to love to go hiking and on scooter adventures through them. So many good memories of the place. Is Taroko Gorge hotsprings still free and awesome?

I always appreciate the reporters who bring news for us in such bad weather.
So do you.
Honestly, it's dangerous for being alone to report.
It's good that you are safe.

謝謝你展示台中影片
但是這樣出門太危險了 不過還是謝謝你
氣候變遷 颱風也變得很不一樣
這次南部淹水很慘 天佑台灣 天佑南部

It's very kind of you to mention your feelings about going out to film during a typhoon in the latter part of the video. Indeed, we often think about ourselves and inadvertently cause trouble for others. Thumbs up for the video👍👍

I'm glad to see the typhoon scenery in Shalu, Taichung. As someone who has served as a firefighter and paramedic in Taichung, I appreciate you mentioning emergency rescue measures. I hope people avoid going out during dangerous times to prevent risks. However, I'd like to offer some advice. I noticed you were wearing flip-flops. If you must ride a motorcycle in such hazardous conditions, please wear shoes that fully cover all your toes and use motorcycle gloves. During my year of emergency service in Taichung, I picked up six fingers off the ground.Fortunately, the fingers were returned to their owners.HAHA

Prozzie, wind turbine will not go faster as that could damage them. Instead they just increase the angle of attack so more energy is created from the same turning speed. If too much wind they will feather them so they will stop rotating, to protect them from damage.

Still remember my first experienced the typhoon was in 1996, and caused flood in Yi-Lan, and I was expecting at the moment, only heard my grandmother told me go upstairs, and seen the sign was swinging on the air, anyway, be careful when you have go out in typhoon.

I am glad you are okay. Most people don't think they will do good in an emergency situation, but you will be surprised how much you can do. I think you would do great. Thanks for bringing us this video.

Be careful! Heavy rain or big wind still happens today.
Stay safe🙏🏻🙏🏻

I think the beginning where you left a basement that was not flooded set the tone

Yeah the worst of it was down south, on the east coast and at mountain regions/villages! Taichung got lucky this time 😂

I worked in tv news as a videographer for many years here in Houston, Texas and have had to cover many hurricanes. It's not a lot of fun as we have major flooding. The saying here is "turn around, don't drown" because many people try to drive thru flood waters, not knowing how deep it is. We just had a hurricane hit a few weeks ago, and loss of power was a big issue. We were out of power for 36 hours, but many others were out for days. And with temperatures in the mid 90s that was pretty bad. From what I've seen, Taiwan kept the power going? Glad you were able to stay safe.

This typhoon was weird. I saw all these videos of flooding and insane extreme weather from around Taiwan and the eye was passing over Taoyuan early yesterday morning and so you'd expect strong winds nearby but... there was nothing in Hsinchu! It was windy on Wednesday at around 3:00PM before the typhoon made landfall, but by 10:00PM that night the weather was perfectly calm. No wind, just a little bit of rain. And it stayed like that as the typhoon got closer and passed by. Yesterday was totally calm. Then for about 10-15 minutes this afternoon we got "typhoon weather", even though the typhoon has passed.

Edit: 1:05 We have the same raincoat! 😆

Random knowledge: The wind turbines have to synchronize with 60Hz AC systems, therefore rotational speeds is controlled and remains constant regardless of wind speed 😁

I’m glad you’re now understanding why there unsympathetic idiots in Taichung, in regard to weather disasters. Taichung is last to be affected meteorologically, for the most part.
