Hope the following helps...
The two expressions in the brackets need to be added together - we need to collect together like terms.
x terms: 5x+6x=+11x
xsquared terms: The 3xsquared has no other x squared term to be added to so stays as 3xsquared
number terms: the -20 term has no other 'number term' to be added to so stays as -20.
Altogether then this therefore becomes 11x+3xsquared-20 or 3xsquared+11x-20

just a bit of help if it doesn't seem right just substitute the answer back into the equation and if it works out right then its right :)

if 8x+28=0
then 8x=-28
So x=-28/8=-3.5
So yes, you are correct

he forgot about the 'L' (last(as in last 2 terms in each bracket)) in the foil, there should also be a +4x with that bracket on the right

In your equation the original question added up to 2. What if it added to 0 when working it out using your method would everything to the left add up to 0 when you expand the brackets?
