I love how vast Whoopi’s experience is.

Whether you write the jokes or not, you have to OWN them for it to land

Watching this makes me realize just how talented Ricky Gervais actually is.

There is no moral judgement in saying that a comedian bombed. He did. That doesnt mean he’s a bad person

He had no background not only in hosting but in celebrity comedy. Most hosts had talkshows so they learn about the celebs and their anecdotes. In those 10 days, he not only had to come up with jokes, learn about the nominees AND nominated works, learn the celebrity world, and do promos and interviews. Yes, he should have said no, but you gotta understand the heart of a hustler. He just did his best even if in the end it wasn't enough. No need to crucify this guy

It wasn't just the monologue but also the presenter's speeches. Whoever wrote this needs to stay away from award shows.

It’s not really about his jokes; it’s about the people in the room who didn't think it's funny coming from someone they thought is beneath them.

I usually agree with Sarah a lot of the times, but I do not agree that people should laugh just to laugh in the name of so-called supporting comedians. If it’s not funny, it’s not funny why should people pretend and fake the funk? No I’m not gonna laugh at your jokes just to make you feel good. Like Whoopi said, if you don’t know that room, it is going to be a very brutal night for you.

She said this, explained it, with such grace. Someone already said it, but you win some and you lose some, even if you’re great.

You win some and you lose some; all Comedians go through it

I don't think pity laughs or fake smiles are necessary. Part of being a comedian & accepting a gig like this is the understanding that people will be offended, think you bombed, etc. I keep seeing people online saying that Taylor overreacted when all she did was sip her drink, which is so mild in comparison to an actual overreaction (aka Will Smith slap). Also, the Barbie joke was the actual gross joke of the night & the proved the entire point of the movie.

The Taylor Swift joke was tame at best. It wasn’t that bad nor mean

Honestly, the joke wasn't even that bad. Some celebrities just act like they have a stick up their butt. It's hit-or-miss. Sometimes you get a room full of celebrities that are cool and know how to have a good time. Other times, you get the ones that just sit there stone face during the whole ceremony.

The Taylor Swift joke was true. Honestly, they keep the camera in her face at any event she attends. Stop putting the camera on her and show the people on the stage. I want to see the person on the stage performing, not Taylor Swift dancing in the audience. People go to see the football game.

Nobody is obligated to like someone's jokes. Get over it.

He obviously had a bad night and for what every reason a lot of the jokes were bad and did not land. The disappointing and surprising things was he did not own it and made excuses and threw his other writers under the bus. That was not very professional and did not earn him much sympathy from many.

“Just smile” is what we’ve told women since the beginning of time when they may feel disrespected or, here’s a notion, if there was nothing to smile about. Why be fake? What happened to “you do you”?

Whoopi is a combination of a great comedienne and because she had a lot of acting done as well, she’ll be considered a long time insider of Hollywood. I guess the formula with dealing with the big egos in the room is to have a big reputation yourself. As popular and funny Jokoy is, I guess he has not reached this status yet to roast them. It is still a great experience and he will rise from this.

It may be a hard gig, as Whoopi indicates, but it can be done by good comedians. Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey & Amy Poehler were all hilarious, in my opinion.

I'm not surprised that he's a good comic elsewhere! But once he ripped that useless Barbie joke and quickly blamed the other writers he lost me. I can empathize with feeling panicked on stage and I'm sure he was uncomfortable, but he backpedaled poorly. Swing and a miss!

Most of the hosts had to prepare months, Jo Koy only got 10 days. I think he did alright knowing that's a tough crowd. Loved Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro's reaction. They had a good laugh.
