It's a pandemic of batteries we have 7 killed in weeks. Shut the world down until we remove every battery.

Too bad they can’t make cars run on batteries like these. Oh wait.

Also, a lithium fire will not be put out by water.

So more people have died from these batteries this year than legally purchased firearms is what I'm hearing.

And yet they want everyone to drive battery powered vehicles

Modified? So death by indirect intent. Not the battery but the user

CBC needs to make up their minds! The batteries in EV vehicles also are more hazardous to the environment and has taken lives where the materials are being extracted.

Tip of the iceberg!
Wait and see the problems the electric cars are going to cause, let alone the environmental disaster when disposal is nessecary!

I wonder if mandating LiFePO4 batteries only would solve this

damn those are no joke... lithium batteries ARE NOT like your regular AA or D batteries, if you are not sure what you are doing, seek advice or just don't bother. there's an overwhelming amount involved with working safely with lithium cells. You need need to test each cell, and build the packs in a certain way as not to short them out, also you need a bms wired in correctly that matches that way you have your cells setup, 12s, 13s, 14s, etc you should have self fusing connections to each cell. there's a lot involved. plus if you mix up different cells in the same pack. -fire hazard- there's a lot of variables it's best to leave it to an electrician, or someone with a lot of experience. Lithium cells are good, but like any dense energy source they need to be handled correctly. its not the lithium cells themselves to be clear. its the miss use of these cells.

Same thing is in electric cars, but way bigger

I sure hope unscrupulous people don't do bad things because if they do then people will die. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed. But hey, it's for the Environment.

China:hey remember all those lithium ion batteries we sent
also china: presses red button

Most likely cause is from thieves who steal Ebikes but don't have the correct charger. You put the wrong charger to a battery, it will explode. Police should determine if it was stolen or not. If so, you know the cause.

yet we want more and more electric vheicles look at the rc market and how dangerous they can be at a high speed crash and tell me fire departments are ready for at least 10x the danger and toxicity of gasoline fires
