A must-have tool that lets you tighten nuts and bolts to a specific torque value. This value is called a Torque Spec and it can be found in the factory service manual (or online for the more common values).

Make sure to do a star pattern when torquing alright to make sure that you torque it evenly

I was gifted a digital torque wrench and holy crap I love it. Just a push of a button and I can set it from 5lbs-125lbs. I need to get one that fits 1/2” drive though

Thanks for the reminder of setting back to zero before storage. I just learned about it recently.

I've got multiple Tekton torque wrenches that I use almost daily!! Love them and they're not ridiculously priced 😁

The looks of the Miata, with the headlights popped up, it’s like it’s looking over you with a smile, knowing that you care about your torque specs 😊

I own a 1/2" torque wrench and I work at a Toyota as an entry level Automotive maintenance technician. Most Toyotas are 80 foot pounds. We would torque the wheels at a star pattern after a rotate to make sure it's even.

Just to be sure torque them again at the same spec. Because one lig nut can move when you tighten another one

My dads always taught me not to rely on a torque wrench or think you need one to do every job, he told me the only time to use a torque wrench is inside a motor, trans, or differentials. He said it’s not a good habit to rely on a torque wrench for everything.

A torque wrench is just a variable torque indicator, it doesnt do anything else. Its just a type of gauge that requires a physical input to measure.

Don’t forget to hold it for 3 seconds metal being torqued to spec tends to the metal being trying to “reform or fit itself “ others call it recoil

The torque is always written somewhere. Either in the back near the nuts or somewhere else.

You're supposed to set the torque wrench to the lowest setting, not close to zero, not all the way down but to lowest setting

Also don't throw click torque wrenches as it will destroy the calibration..

Cheap torque wrenches like that are okay for things like wheels. Although if you are working on sensitive parts like engine internals, SRS components, diffs, trans, or rubber suspension mounts, you're really foing to want a calibrated and accurate torque wrench. Lots of cheap torque wrenches are not accurate ar all. I had a TEKTON wrench like that when i was starting out as a lube tech 6 years ago and i tested it on my shops torque meter and it was off by like 20 Ft/lbs.

Realistically, most things that are torque to spec do not need to be torqued to spec. Imo, for 90% of bolts a torque wrench is just to prevent beginners from snapping bolts.
