I got to say honestly I have been on the fence about the steam deck, but knowing that I can play game cube and PS2 well Kinda sold me. Well done Bob.

I loved your original video about the Miyoo Mini so much I gave it a try and bough my very first emulator device. I got obsessed and ended up buying all 4 colors. Modded one of them fully: I spray painted it, changed all buttons to new ones (including better back buttons) and even changed the speaker. Super fun project I would 100% recommend doing it, it's affordable (IMO) and it looks awesome. Thank you for your videos! It made me really interested in retro gaming and modding them.

Your editing is getting better and better! You clearly enjoy and have pride in it. I loved the opening sequence!

Completely agree with the Miyoo Mini for #1. Other systems might be more comfortable and can play more games, but the Miyoo Mini is the one you're more likely to actually want to use due to how easy and fast it is to whip out of your pocket and get into a game. I was skeptical about it since I'm not normally a portable gamer but I use my Miyoo Mini every chance I get.

Honestly the steam deck as an all around handheld is probably the best, it can emulate ps3, switch, etc, on top of being a gaming PC, the only problem is compared to other emulator focused devices it's much bigger and more expensive, but it can do way more, if I were to have 1 handheld it'd have to be a steam deck

I got my Steam Deck and while i've not used it a whole bunch, the amount of time I have used it I love it. Currently only use it if im away from my gaming PC, as of late I have been working from home so i've not needed it, if I am ever away from home however I will bring it with me because its just amazing.

My favorite portable emulator this year was probably the Ayn Odin. It got me into the more expensive handheld emulation scene and it was amazing to have such a powerful device in such a portable form factor.

New viewer here. I really appreciate your terminology when it comes to cost! So many youtubers do reviews and rankings and cheap = $700. You definitely connect with the "normal" viewer

I ended up getting an Anbernic 353VS direct from Anbernic a couple of months ago as I wanted a vertical handheld but something a little larger than the Miyoo. I've been really pleased with it, the delivery process to the UK was fine and it wasn't too tough to load games to it. The analogue controls aren't the best, but for d-pad stuff it has been perfect 👌. I'm lucky enough to have a Steam Deck too, and you are 100% right about having a other device as a companion for it!

Steam Deck is a great device. It really suprised me in my use case. I thought I was only going to play my games from my Steam Library but the emulation powers it have made me dig out my old PS2 games.

the miyoo mini also seems like it would be a good "kids first video game", for like a primary school aged kid you want to introduce video games too, you can start them off with the oldest video games and every few months give them newer and newer games. that way they can appreciate the classics without them feeling dated and crappy because they haven't been spoilt by the newest video games.

I settled on a Steam Deck and Miyoo Mini combo months ago. I'm so relieved that my finger seems to be on the pulse of the retro handheld landscape, lol. To me, going with two devices that accomplish vastly different objectives is the way to go. Get something that is beefy and can run everything you want, and get something that is ultra-portable and snappy with some key favorites. Getting devices that are well-supported by the community is important too.

I still pine a little over the middle-ground devices like the AYN Odin and RP3+, as well as the sleekness of the Analogue Pocket, but I just know they'd fall into a gap between the two I have and never get used. They'll never be as powerful as the Steam Deck and they'll never be as portable as the Miyoo Mini. So I'm pretty happy with what I've got.

My Analogue pocket finally arrived a few days before my flight. I Immediately jailbroke it and got it dialed in so I can take it through its paces while on the plane. Clutch!! I love this lil guy for its capabilities and the fact that it has a dedicated community always looking to add to it. A huge bonus is the fact that its easy to repair which I really appreciate in a portable device.

Edit - Play Blazing Star for the NeoGeo on this guy.... That game on that screen is so wonderful.

It is an interesting year. There are still GKD MINI Plus, Anbernic 35xx, KT R1 coming before Xmas. For so many years of 3326 devices, here come so many promising devices in just one year.

I ordered an AYN Odin lite from their website and got it in 6 days and have had it for about a week. I think their shipping stuff is fixed now. Although shipping to USA cost me $44 with DHL.

I still can't get away from my Odin Pro ever since you showed it to me 🙏. I've been happily reliving the 3DS and PSP days

I recently jumped into the seemingly endless rabbit hole that is retro handhelds. I appreciate your video, it's very honest and to the point. I landed on the Miyoo Mini V2 because I'm not that concerned with GC or PS2 games so it hits the boxes for me. The price point, portability, ease of use for someone new to this, and the fact that it comes with a case and preloaded games makes for an easy win in my book. I keep going back and forth on a Steam Deck as well.
