My most recommended Retro Handheld, the Anbernic RG35XX, just got a major upgrade. This PLUS version adds support for N64, Dreamcast, DS and even PSP games. Is it worth the upgrade?

GarlicOS 2.0.1 (Public Alpha) supports the Anbernic RG35XX+ by Nov 14, 2023!

Getting mine today. Was considering the original rg35xx, especially seeing as I have a Steam Deck, but the Plus feels like it's a big enough boost to justify it. Not to mention I'm confident that community support will be there, so things should improve over time.

An important upgrade not focused on was the Bluetooth capability so you can use separate controllers

I love the bits you do for most ad reads, but this was such a step up, thanks for doing what you do

I purchased the RG35XX following your recommendation in one of your videos. I agree that the RG35XX Plus is an excellent upgrade, but it might be wise to wait until the custom firmware is available. Additionally, I believe this model features Bluetooth connectivity, enabling the pairing of a controller, which is particularly helpful for analog stick functionality

Thank you for the great video! I sold my RG35XX to get the Plus. It's a good little handheld, even if it has some firmware issues and annoyances. Once a stable release hits, I can't wait to get GarlicOS 2.0 on it! It's gonna be a little powerhouse!

They released an updated that lets you tap the power button once on DS games that makes the dpad control the virtual stylus

In Retroarch, you can enable shaders and use sharp bilinear simple, which does an integer scale as high as possible and then bilinear filtering the rest of the way. You get most of the sharpness of a full native integer upscale, but it will fill the screen at the cost of a tiny bit of blur. And that filter “just works” for every system.

I actually threw in a purchase order for an RG35XX about 4 days ago for a total of 49 Euros (53 USD) from Geekbuying. I've basically just wanted a GBA emulator but handheld for the past few years and it'll do what I need it to - I'm glad to see that these companies can continue improving whilst keeping costs down. The return of retro these past few years has been an absolute delight.

In January of this year, I bought the RG35XX for myself and my girlfriend got one, too.

I’ve played it far more than any video game device I own this year (including a Steam Deck and OLED Switch).

BlackSeraph made this device into absolute amazingness with very little downside.

As it stands, I’m banking on BlackSeraph to do it again with GarlicOS 2.0 and will be purchasing a Plus. Here’s my reasoning as someone absolutely in love with his original and who quite literally carries it with me alongside my phone everywhere I go:

* upgraded shoulder buttons
* upgraded battery
* support for Bluetooth so my 8BitDo controllers would work, along with my HDMI adapter, turning this into my ultimate “play anywhere” device
* a larger library of games
* more consistent PSX emulation (Jumping Flash didn’t work properly on GarlicOS 1.4.9)
* whatever benefits and libraries the new GarlicOS will bring

I’m willing to make that bet that GarlicOS will make this thing even more magical.

The miyoo mini plus now supports drastic for ds emulation. One shoulder button swaps screens the other shoulder button toggles the dpad and a button to use the touch screen

I have it to play older systems with some lcd or crt shaders, it works well but custom firmwares are strongly awaited. Still a really cool nostalgic feeling with a nice screen and great controls (100 % shoryukenable for me)

First things first, I'd like to thank you for this type of video, I finally decided to order a Miyoo Mini + this month after I saw your video on it. The fact they don't charge for shipping is a great plus! About this device, it looks great but tbh, I never felt like playing consoles that are over 16 bits like N64 or Dreamcast on such a small screen. There might be some exception for games like Rayman on PS1, but overall, this never was a matter to me if the device can play those. I'll still look forward to any potential upgrades through custom firmware though, as they can improve the quality of use for such devices.

B. Wulff, you my guy. I'm not into this handheld at all but you kept the review interesting. So much so that I even sat thru your commercial. (And I have YT premium so I really didn't have to) Keep doing what you do and you'll always have a fan.

I was quickly looking at the YouTube frames preview of this video because I'm not super interested in the device, but I saw your ad skit part and I've reached the point where I'm genuinely curious of what skit you come up with this time. Damn it, can't believe you made me interested in ads.

Thank you for a great review! My brother just picked one up used for crazy cheap and I think this is what I’m gonna go also.

Very cool, I just wish they'd have kept the bezels from the original. The original grey looked so good.
