Lincoln was not hostile to Blacks yet he saw them as not compatible with the American society by nature as well by the trauma of slavery : he would have pushed for "repatriation" of many to Liberia, and for a separate citizenship for those remaining like that of Basutoland (which was conceived as a more humane and equal alternative to apartheid). Blacks in America would have territories and when working outside those territories suffered an immigrant or guest worker's plight, like the Mexicans and Italians, rather than Jim Crow.
