Today i switched to lynage OS 7.1.1 and tried with ES file xplorer which I paid for and I'd did not work... then installed root explorer and it worked like a charm :-)

Can confirm this works in 2019 and the missing link in restoring my save correctly was changing the secontext. Thank you @Jbro129 for this guide.
