In some states it isn't a choice. In 2020, the state I had moved to put a poll tax on voter registration. You had to have a title, lease or mortgage to prove you're a resident. I didn't have any of those things, so I couldn't register. The law to require those things was struck down as unconstitutional after the election but did we get a do-over? Nope.
My point being is that in some states, voting rights are constantly violated. States run by Republicans. Luckily, I was able to register this time.

I would want to know WHY someone didn't vote before I made any judgements. Just sayin.

Yea, having people vote in a group sounds like a great idea. I dont even TELL my kids how I “want” them to vote. I tell them they have to research everything and make up their own minds. And its their own business on how they vote.

OK, but respectfully, there is a lot more nuance to someone not voting than that.

A lot of people have people like this woman in their life who will grill them on if they’re voting and who they’re voting for and will make it a personal issue and cut them out of their lives for it.

People have FAMILY who would do that to them.

My mom is very careful about what she says regarding politics because her family is super extreme about it.

So you cannot just make a blanket statement that someone who is not voting is voting “for the side you oppose, ” or is a “bad friend” or “doesn’t care about the country.”

There are a lot of reasons that people choose not to vote and they are not all these malicious, secretive reasons.

And I think making a big deal about it like this is part of the reason WHY people are choosing not to vote.

If she really wanted to encourage people to vote. This is not the way to go about it.

What’s the point of boasting about living in a democracy when you don’t even vote? Other countries have people fighting for democracy and here you have people who can vote, but are too lazy to even bother.

In this country: You can choose to not vote, stand for National Anthem, and dislike a song everyone else likes. You can be whomever and whatever you want to be. You can also choose to not be friends with that person: because you have that choice. Welcome to the United States!
