Rugby Analysis: All Blacks vs Springboks | The DUMBEST 6 minutes in Springbok history

What I witnessed today has to be the dumbest 6 minutes in the entire history of Springbok rugby. They had this game for the taking with All Blacks having an off day and they literally kicked it away with the dumbest decision making that I've seen in quite some time. They played so good in this Rugby Championship matchup, up until the 74th minute when it all fell apart.

They get a linebreak in the 74th minute and have a 6 vs 3 overlap on the outside, but Faf de Klerk does not even try to look for an attacking opportunity. He only had one thing on his mind and that was to kick.

Then there's the 76th minute incident where SA gets a turnover in midfield, they get scrum advantage. To give context, they dominated the scrums and got penalties with their scrums. But instead of taking the scrum advantage. Pollard makes one of the worst decision I've seen and decides to just kick it away. That led to AB's counter attacking and creating a penalty, which won them the game.

And to top things off, at the end of the game with 1 minute left, SA has the ball on midfield and Herschel Jantjies just decides to kick it away.

I've never seen a 6 minute period that consisted of such bad decision making as the Springboks did today. This game was on the coaching staff because it is clear as day, that it's the system that is the problem. I honestly can't even blame Faf or Pollard, it really looks like they're doing what they're told to do.

The song choice... just incredible.
Pollard kick advantage away as they say " why can't we give ourselves one more chance"
Pure gold.

Springbok coaches must take responsibility for the shambolic game plan.

I'm an AB fan. I was like "Wait. Aren't we behind? Why are they giving us the ball??" Not that I'm complaining...

This was painful to watch. You're correct: South Africa had multiple chances to win within the last 5 minutes.

Great video analysis. They have been so drilled into their kicking game that not a single player can think for himself anymore. They don't even look up and around for spaces to attack because that is not what they do. The players play it safe and stick to the plan - just kick every ball away and hope for a lucky bounce. The ABs are going to run them ragged next week.

Probably the worst all blacks performance I’ve seen in a long time and SA never capitalised. I think it really shows a huge problem with their current strategy.

As a Saffa, long tired of the kicking away possession syndrome...what the feck do the team think of this, great analysis.

What I can't understand is why are the Boks doing this? I mean after Rassie took over, the Boks were quite good with the ball in hand in 2018-2019. The England series, The matches against the All Blacks and Wallabies, even the World Cup, the Boks showed great skill while also staying true to their traditional gameplan of physicality, strong set piece and kicking. It was a pretty balanced gameplan that the Boks were playing.

But now it looks like they have completely forgotten how to play any type of decent running rugby. The backs are utterly clueless about what to do with the ball. There is no problem with kick heavy tactics but there needs to some balance to it. Currently its just stupid idiotic kicking.

Neither team came out looking good tbh.
As an ABs fan, I was screaming at them for all those turnovers

Shocking and the coach still defends the game plan. The Boks ripped defeat from the jaws of victory on an occasion like the 100th matchup with our archrivals. And never mind the sensless kicking, could we not just keep it together for 4 minutes with the game in hand ... unforgiveable!

THANK YOU! Said exactly what I was screaming. Agree coaching staff are to blame. There has to be adaptability to the best of game plans, (and just a bit of logic.)

AB's have so much game awareness, the players are in tune with whats going on and are off the same mind set of what needs to be done.

0:50 That hit on Jaspier WIese (?) by Patrick Tuipulotu was the momentum shift that allowed the AB forwards to put on ruck pressure forcing Pollard to revert to his "go to" tactic instead of going for the overlap

Talk about a defining moment, Big Patty has been been immense for the Blues the last two years
