Such a helpful series! Thanks Broughy. Learned so much about racing from your GTA videos and this series is a goldmine for a beginner like me.

I know this is an old video but something I'd like to point out that you failed to mention. Manual gears allow you to better keep within the car's power band, the C2 Vette is an excellent example. All the power is in the middle of the rev range, way off the red line, so short shifting would actually provide a faster time.
It may be obvious to you or I but to someone starting out it could be a handy tip.

I wish GTA had manual gears because as soon as I changed to manual on Gran Turismo I couldn't go back to automatic no matter how much I tried. I'd get in my Subaru Impreza 22b Coupe STi Version and do practise laps around a few courses (which is what I normally do when I have free time) fine turning it, but I had Auto on and I wanted to see what it was like to have Manual, so I tried it and first time I managed to get 5 seconds off my best time around Leguna Seca. After that I never went back. With trying to use Auto again, I could never get used to having no control over my gears. This is why when I play GTA races I still feel a bit restricted, even driving my Sultan, no matter how fast I can slide around corners, sprint through thin roads at high speed or getting really close to a barrier without crashing. I still feel restricted. Manual would have been awesome in GTA but then again it may not have worked since no GTA that I know of has ever had a Rev counter or a Speedometer. Also I just realised I type way too much...

This is really helpful as I just purchased my first wheel, using the Logitech G27 wheel and pedal set for GT6. Comes with 6-speed shifter and clutch. Paddle shifting is definitely easier, but just cant beat the control of full manual especially once you get good with it. Do you have a wheel? and if yes which one?

Hey Broughy, regarding shifting down twice in rapid succession: I find it counter-intuitive that I'd care about the engine going crazy when I just want to brake - or does it take time to recover from the crazyness for so long that the acceleration out of the corner is slowed down as well?

On Gran Turismo 6 which is the game you're playing how do you make cars so you have to manually shift it turned off for some reason on my game

But how many times should I downshift before entering the corner, should I go down to 2nd gear always?

Getting use to manual gears wasn't really that hard for me to be honest. But games like this have that little thing that it tells you to what gears to go in.

we need to make a open looby in gt6 are you down broughy?

So using the engine braking is bad? I find shifting 2 gears down right away allows for slightly later braking. That said, I only know this works in arcade style NFS games and GT4, which was the last GT game I had the luxury of playing...

What about throttle blipping? I don't know if it helps on GT6 since it's not really a sim. But in Project CARS it might give a better lap time. But that could be my fault. I was 0, 5 seconds faster, but it felt faster.

How do I know what corners need what gear? How would I have known that I needed 2nd gear for the first turn?

Could I change down (for example) from 4 to 2? Like I'm at 110km/h at 4, I see a corner, I gradually break to 60km/h (before turning). During the breaking, should I go 4-3-2, or could I go 4-2? Thanks.
