I really appreciate this video. It's been 17 years (2006) since I've been on a bike and I couldn't figure out how to change gears. I found the smaller levers but didn't know the brake handles moved as well. Thanks!

Good overview but I slightly differ on one point. I leave the chain on the smallest front and smallest rear gears when not using my bike for an extended amount of time (overnight or longer). This leaves the derailleur cable in its most relaxed position with very little tension. I do this for increased cable longevity. But during cycling, that combination is definitely not recommended.

I must admit when I put my bike together I wondered "where are the gears?" as I am so used to them being part of the handle bar or having the old gear shifts. It's going to take a bit of practiuce before I get out on to some serious distance riding

I just borrowed a friends bike that has this year system.
Took me 3 days to work out the gears.
I wouldn't have if I didn't see this video.
How things have changed in a short time.

Very useful video. Great, easy to understand presentation. I have been experiencing difficulty on my Kestrel Legend shifting from the small ring to the large ring. I just had maintenance work done for this problem. But, returning to the road, I am in the small ring but cannot get it to return to the large ring. Any suggestions?

After 1:40, what does it mean to shift down gears before coming to a stop? If I have a bike with 6 gears in the back, would this look like shifting from gear 6 to gear 1 on the rear? Would you also shift the front as well? I'm new to this and a bit confused.
