Why I Think Sims 4 Traits, Aspirations and Likes & Dislikes Features Need An Overhaul!

I’ve said this a thousand times but here we go again… traits like lactose intolerant and vegetarian should be a dietary option. Better yet, we could have a food preference and allergies category, making other packs more interesting (bees and pollens allergies, nuts allergies - if we had any - fur allergies, etc, etc.)

Absolutely love this mod, let’s me choose traits that enhance gameplay instead of always picking “neat or slob”. I am also lactose intolerant and I would not call that a lifestyle 😅 more of an unfortunate circumstance.

I think food traits should not be part of traits at all but under likes and dislikes or something new like preferences.

It would be fun if they had a Dull trait for sims who come off boring to other sims but the upside is they never get bored themselves and it's really hard to kill them with extreme emotions because it's harder for them to reach those points.

I agree with everything you said at the end but i also *really* want more trait slots. It's so hard to make unique sims w only 3 personality traits, and i don't like how lactose intolerant has to take up a trait slot when it has nothing to do with personality.

My issue is not about the number of traits, is the DEPTH each of the traits can have. A trait that has 2-3 features is not going to cut it. Sorry I need the trait to be activated when my Sims talk to others, in their house or in community lots etc. No and I don't mean a dumb emotion.

I've been using the 100 traits one for months and I can't even remember a time without them. They're soooo much more immersive and make the sims seem more well-rounded and realistic. It also makes storytelling more fun! I pair it with the extra trait slots mod because having that many traits to pick from makes you want to use more!

You're kind of ignoring the aspects of certain traits. Dance Machine is a good example, yes both the Like and the Trait will give you a Happy Moodlet, BUT the Trait gives you the ability to "Take Disco Nap" on couches etc that will refill your energy bar super fast as well as some other little gems. I actually like that they don't spell out every little detail for us because then we get the fun of discovering the subtle differences.

That being said, I do agree that they really need to refresh them and clean up the lists and categories, there are a lot of redundancies like those you pointed out. Thanks for sharing the great video and pointing out another way to make Sims 4 even better!

I think at the end of the day my biggest annoyance is the amount of slots we have. You made great point about how it almost doesn't matter anyway since a lot of the traits are just moodlets. (and I hate that too) But, I feel like even if they did half ass a lot of the traits, with enough moodlets at least my sims would emotionally react according to imagined personality.

traits are really in need of an update, here of some ideas i came up with on the top of my head:

0. MORE TRAIT OPTIONS PLEASE. I'm using a mod that lets adult sims have 5 traits, and I literally can't play without that mod anymore it's perfect
1. Move hobby traits to likes and dislikes(while still keeping the trait-specific interactions), also add more likes and dislikes categories (food, conversation topics, turn ons/offs, movie and book preferences, etc)
2. Revamp earlier traits so they have more impact in gameplay rather than just adding random moodlets and interactions. For example hot-headed sims could get angry in situations where they're supposed to be sad or tense, evil sims won't get sad when witnessing death, goofball sims could get playful when they're inspired/flirty, etc.
3. Tone down some of the traits; first thing that comes to mind is jealous. Maybe rebrand the current one to "obsessive" and make a new jealous trait that gets sad(angry if hot-headed) when they see their loved one doing high-friendship interactions to other sims or smth
4. Make a new category outside of trait where you can choose sims' allergies, like pollen, fur, nuts, and non-allergic stuff too like lactose-intolerance and eczema

5. Add more traits, we're really missing essential ones that can make characters more dynamic. A good place to start would be making opposites of existing traits, like dunce(genius), mature(childish), insecure(self-assured), serious(playful), humble(self-absorbed)... i could go on forever honestly

Honestly, mods like this one are the only things that make the Sims 4 playable for me at this point. Without mods, even with expansions and packs and kits and kadoodles, the Sims 4 feels so incomplete.

The sims 4 is so scattered and unfinished. They’re so focused on giving us something new and shiny feature instead of adding on to what we already have. I am getting so bored with the personality traits, I feel like all the sims are basically the same.

Traits stink, but boy my sims develop bizarre, life stopping fears out of the blue and change everything. So dumb

I agree 💯there should be an update on traits. To be honest trait are worthless in this game, Sim dont actually act on the traits or have any impact. Same with the parent hood behaviors, its just there to look at which defeats the whole purpose of it. I hate it

Chingyu has some of the best trait/personality mods hands down. They have some really neat gameplay mods that help with sim autonomy too

The dance machine trait is actually really good, because you get the disco nap option, which fills your energy so much faster. I use it in all my Rags to Riches games, because it's so useful when they're napping on benches and stuff.
