This is brutal reality trying to schedule anything with any of my friends who have kids and/or partners.

UPDATE: I lived in Vegas my entire life and I just moved to a small town in Northern California.

1 day left, just want to sleep in, avoid people, and relax.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

In my 30s, I realized that most of my friendships were purely circumstantial. Stop working together? Friendship over. Sports team season ends? Friendship over.

Having friendly acquaintances rather than close friends is a natural evolution of realizing this fact through experience.

People without kids saying “well you shouldn’t have had a kid if it’s so miserable!”: you don’t get it, and you just won’t get it unless you have a child. Just because we complain about the stress of it doesn’t mean we regret it (well most of us don’t). It’s hard work and miserable but also absolutely amazing and fulfilling and beautiful and life changing all at the same time. I didn’t get how you could feel both of these at the same time until I had a kid. It’s like two different worlds.

I'm 43, and have 2 really good friends to my name, as well as a few casual friendships. And that's plenty. As I get older, I lack the energy to handle people's drama and foolishness. I've built walls, and they do a fine job of protecting me from users, narcissists, and idiots.
