How I Got Into MIT, Yale, UCs as an International Student!

I've gotten a lot of requests to talk about my stats and extracurriculars, so here it is! Please don't take this video in the wrong way: my intention was to share my application details as a Canadian. If you enjoyed watching, subscribe for more content from me!

Also, you might've realized that I didn't talk about my essays. Part of it is that they were pretty personal, and I don't want to share them on the internet. Another part of it is that I don't know why they worked. Arguably, essays are more subjective than test scores and extracurriculars. They are also more individualized, and I don't want people to take my essays as a formula for how to write their own.

Ahh I'm so glad I found this video! It basically gave me a sigh of relief because I thought an international student would have to do some really crazy stuff to get into MIT, which is my dream school. I'm living in the US and unsure if I could get a green card by the time I apply to college, because so far my biggest accomplishment is just qualifying for Pink MOP (which you've probably heard of since you did math comps too)

Congratulations on all of your acceptances and achievements! Would you mind sharing study tips for math competitions and how you prepared?

Wow, our experiences are really similar (guess it’s a Canadian thing). We even got the same SAT score at the same time in the same year of highschool. As a current junior aspiring to get into MIT math, I’ve been learning ahead in math and participating in a bunch of math competitions (but moreso out of my passion for math than to simply get admitted). However, I only recently learned about AP exams and so I’m predicting I won’t take as many APs as I’d like to by the end of highschool(currently I’m self-studying for bc and physics c mechanics; next year I’m planning to take at least physics c em, stats, chem, and lang) Hopefully I share the same fate as you and get into MIT, but ultimately it’s a luck thing!

i think i'll end up having a hard time making my application half as good as yours :(( my high school doesn't really have a lot of extracurricular activities to offer, and they rarely participate in contests + covid came :// i plan on going to a state uni for shs which hopefully would open doors to opportunities :- D
