Who actually remembers when they’ve opened a product though 😬

Some people said the PAO code is a gimmick by beauty companies to get you to buy more of their products. After taking a microbiology class and seeing how fast those little suckers grow in dark, moist, warm, nutrient enriched environments...Yeh, I'm not risking the business. So thankful you made this video. It's so informative.

Eye shadow is something I use until it's used up or they begin to not work as well, Most eye shadow palettes say they have a 12 month shelf life but it takes me way longer to get through an eye shadow palette. However I do disinfect them from time to time...I know that's not good enough but it's hard to just throw them away when you spend a lot of money you want to use it up. I go with the same rule with my pressed powders.

Now I try to follow the correct rules with the mascara and eye liner!

But lipsticks...I know I have some that are over a year old currently. I do always check for the signs that you mentioned and I am ready to part with one or however many if I need too.

Eye shadow palettes are really the only thing I refuse to follow the 12 month self life rule haha

Thanks for making this video though you've got some really important information in this and I think a lot of people wouldn't be aware of everything you went over

It sucks because I only really wear makeup a couple times a month maybe so it's like I only get a few good uses out of what I have before they expire 😕

if u have a cold sore on your lips and u want to cover it without infecting your lipstick use a cotton/tissue/cotton swab to apply it.

A dead giveaway on anything you might be wondering about is the smell of old crayons 🖍. The oils in expired makeup go rancid and get that weird smell. 😜

Robert, this is one of your most informative... I’ve always wondered how long make-up lasts.... I have a lot to throw out... especially moisturizors and creams and toners. Thank you so much...

I have a little black "beauty book" that I keep with my skincare & makeup. I keep track of products and brands that I like/love, want to try, ingredients that I want and want to avoid and so on. I know what one section will be dedicated to - I'm incredibly guilty of holding onto my products and ignoring the shelf life. Probably the only thing that's shielded me so far is my obsession with cleanliness. 😑

I think I’ll link this video in the comments anytime I see a video where someone is talking about their makeup “collection.” I’ll also ask if they care to show us the yogurt “collection” in their fridge.

Let’s not “collect” anything that grows bacteria and mold by nature.

Cream/liquids tend to change in consistency, smell different when they’ve gone off- and definitely should be thrown out. Double dipped products I feel need to be thrown out when expired because of the added introduction of bacteria. Also even if they’re for personal use I always sanitise my products thoroughly especially ones that I would double dip into. Powders I feel don’t really go off unless there’s cream/oil added onto it. In which there is a chance of bacterial growth. Definitely need to throw out mascara/eyeliners after 3-4 months. As an optometrist I have seen a few infections from use of really old mascaras and it ain’t pretty. Lipsticks that are smelling weird and are really old need to be thrown out

Great tips! I just threw out various skincare products because I was concerned they might be expired. I felt it was better to be safe than sorry!

I always buy the $12 mascara minis from Sephora bc they last a perfect 3 months before they start to get dry and flaky.

This is such a great video to find!
I’m adamant about tossing out my mascara after 3 months. I never risk that sort of craziness however, I’m bad for using expired powder products.

Robert, never stop teaching. The world needs people like you that can educate about products

When first getting into makeup, I had no idea there was an expiration date! However, looking back, I realize why my foundation wouldn’t blend easily, it was a little crusty, and it was globby. I had it for 2+ yrs!

Your channel has helped me so much. I had makeup from over 10 years ago, I hadn't washed my brushes ever. Thank you for all of your tips!
