I turned this already powerful mini PC into a full-blown Tiny Gaming PC!
The Minis Forum HX90 is powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX and it puts out some good gaming performance but I wanted a little bit more so I added an M.2 eGPU, Spaciffcally an Nvidia RTX 3060 using the ADT Link R3G M.2 to Pciex16 external GPU dock.

M.2 E-GPUs are getting popular now, I hope mini pc manufacturers would consider making an m.2 slots to be the same as MicroSD card slot so you can plug your E-GPU without making the mini pc expose its internals.

I don't think you realize the editing got a bit messed up here. You repeat the same thing back to back at least a couple of times in the video. Figured you would want to know. Love the content!

ETA PRIME hair reveal? Massive moment, this is going to be on the news. Jokes aside, this is amazing for people getting laptops and don't want to throw away their laptop when they want more power (a 5600h will last, 3050 ti won't lol)

"It makes no sense..." except when you are a mini pc enthusiast and it makes perfect sense!

You would think these mini PC makers would finally understand some people would actually like to hook up a GPU and use them to game

This actually makes a lot of sense. I bought a laptop and will never do so again because of the lack of upgradeability and enormous cost. However I don't want a full on tower either cause its nice to have something portable. This solves both those issues as at home I can have the most powerful graphics card available and easily upgrade it (unlike a laptop) and I can just use the built in one for travelling. All this is cheaper than a laptop.

What an unnecessarily complicated setup - I love it!

I like mini PCs and SBCs. Have you watched Jeff Geerling as. A raspberry pi lover, take and add unsupported graphics and modify code to get them to work?
He stretches the Raspberry Pi always. He has found many other vendor hardware that is compatible and leverages the R Pi beautifully..

what I like about this setup (minipc + external GPU) is it has the smallest form factor. You can come up w/ some clever and minimalistic mounting solutions. Perhaps you can mount behind the monitor / TV or under desk. Much harder to do with a mini gaming PC

Can't wait for USB 4 so AMD thin and light laptops can support E GPUs :p. Looking forward to you doing the tests

Ya know what, it's not a rediculous notion. I've been looking for a laptop replacement as I work mobile professionally . I'm frequently disappointed with the gaming performance of gaming laptops in my budget. For this money, I could spend the same, and just take the mini out for work (I always plug into external screens anyway) and leave the GPU at home.

I just ordered a minisforum HX 90 512 + 32 to replace my 2013 Celeron desktop pc. Thanks for all your work, I am a fan of your videos and I like how you invent some ways to push HW to the max! Regards from Spain.

It's actually starting to make more sense to do this with used mini PCs and older i7 laptop becoming super cheap

There's a couple of huge benefits to this vs. a standard gaming machine... footprint and keeping it clean. This is way easier to just hit with the canned air every couple of days or so and keep your fans and fins looking and working great. Plus, you get to see your stuff. :)

I want an eGPU solution like that, but over Thunderbolt, without costing a few hundo.
