Plasma Cutter Drag Tip DO YOU NEED IT ? A lot of branded plasma torches come with all sorts of options when it comes to plasma cutting consumables . But if you're looking for a plasma cutter drag shield for a cheap chineses plasma torch you might be out of luck. Some come with a plasma cutter standoff guide such as the AG- 60 plasma torch but i haven't come across any the use a plasma cutter drag cup. You just don't get the option with the generic torches.

Very helpful I have the 3 rd one you showed. I always thought you had to hold it just off the work. If I can drag it my cuts will be much straighter. Thanks.

Swirl ring also insulate the cutting tip to be in contact with electrode.Electrode is negative current whereas cutting tip is positive, Swirl ring also serve as spacer between electrode and cutting tip to make high frequency arc.Cutting tip also connect the ground lead to form a complete electrical path.

I have a lotos ltp5000d. The red one. It’s a pilot arc machine and the torch is like the one you have here. If I drag the tip will it short out the machine? Someone told me it would but I’ve been doing it that way for a while now.

The drag nozzle you showed as an example is the one from my torch. Nice bright safety jacket you’re wearing. Makes certain the all the other guys working in your shop don’t bump into you.

Pete, what do you mean they’re all drag tip? Drag shields aren’t electrically connected to the tip. You’re not supposed to touch the metal with a standard tip. That seems dangerous, it’s a direct short.

I have bought PT 31 LG 40 I have a cut 40 machine why do the PT 30 and the LG 40 tips that I buy for this not work they start an arc and then as soon as they punch the hole they stop I have one old tip that will just cut and cut and cut that tip I can put on any of the other consumables and it will work there is something different with just the tips

Pete the AG-60 is NOT to be used as a drag tip!! It is NOT a drag tip torch that is why it comes with a stand off guide. Take the guide off and your tip will burn off almost immediately. The P31 IS a DRAG TIP torch. Pilot Arc torches NEED a stand off guide.
