Summary, but watch the video:
- Push regular socks with a constricting top down to ankle
- Don't let compression stockings roll down
- Sit on your butt, not on butt and back of legs. This means moving to the near edge of seat so only glutes are on chair.
- Don't sit on a chair that's so high your legs dangle - lower the chair if you can, or put something under your feet.
- Elevating legs w ottoman or recliner helps. However, don't put the Achilles tendon on an edge - there's a vein back there, and this restricts blood flow. Use a pillow to distribute the pressure.
- Reclining more helps more.
- Don't curl your legs under your chair.
- Don't lean forward when sitting.
- Don't sit for longer than an hour
- Walking works, but many short walks work better than one long walk.

Dangled my legs off the edge of my office chair for 3 years, valves in my legs became damaged and surgery indicated. Fixed the chair, spent time elevating legs and 9 months later circulation is much better. Hoping to avoid surgery. This video is absolutely correct. If only I had known this sooner. Thank you so much!

I’m telling you what I retired last summer I ended up having a knee replacement and carpal tunnel surgery in my hand and elbow all that got severally agrevated by me gardening hard so anyway I just retired from nursing and I can tell I’m older and the old saying use it or lose it my legs feel so weak and I believe it’s from not getting the exercise from working I’m going to have to exercise in order to continue to garden. But I don’t have the motivation I’m trying!!! I do keep busy here at the house but I’m still not as active and I think that’s hurting me.

Thank you for your tips. I have done some of these, but will make sure I am aware of all of the issues. I try to use my stationary bicycle from one to two hours a day. This has also helped me with the circulation and my stability.

My dad could use this video very much. He’s had knee replacement surgery in ‘22 & ‘23. He’s better, but his ankles and feet are still so swollen it’s quite overwhelming for me to see as his son, 😞. I keep telling him motion is lotion.

Thanks a bunch, gentlemen! I'm 64, type 2 D, obese, hypertension, fatty liver, stage 1 ckd, hypothyroidism, disabled woman with the issues of blood flow in my legs/feet.
