I love how you go through minor pentatonic and major pentatonic scales the simplest scales out there and then jumped straight into altered dominant

The altered dominant scale, a scale that uses a form of the melodic minor scale with a different root, is only meant to be used over the V chord (thus the name altered DOMINANT scale) when the next chord is the I chord. It is particularly meant to be used when b5, #5, b9, #9 dominant chords are used like E7#9 WHEN FOLLOWED by an Am, A7 or A major chord. . The E altered dominant scale notes are E-root F-b9, G-#9, G#-major 3rd, Bb- b5, C-#5, D-minor7, E -root. All the 'out' notes can be used on the V chord because the next change is going back the strong I or tonic chord for resolution.

The unaltered melodic minor scale can be used to solo over dominant chords in a blues like A7, D7, and E7. But you have to use the melodic minor scale a fifth up from the chord you are playing, e.g. an E melodic minor scale over the A7.The E melodic minor notes when played over an A7 are E-major 5, F# -major 6, G - dominant7, A- root, B - major 9th, C# major 3d and D# major7, all the notes sympathetic to the dominant 7 ( major/minor7th) and it's extensions. The major 7th is only meant to be used as a passing tone used slurred into the root but since the dominant 7 chord also contains a major chord in it's base the major7 is a legitimate note.

The A altered dominant scale and the D altered dominant scale are not meant to be used over the A7 and D7 in an A7, D7, E7 blues. You can hear what happens when you do on your own video, extremely discordant.

The E altered dominant scale can be used over the E7, E7b5, E7#5, E7b9 and E7#9 in a blued . E, F, G, G#, A#/Bb, C, D and E but it gives a jazzy kind of sound that many times would sound out of place, yet consonant. Altered dominant scales work best with 'smooth jazz' and bebop genres, generally.

Has Tyler had a huge explosion of popularity recently? Seems like just yesterday he celebrated hitting 100, 000, now he's 144, 000?!?

These types of videos are my favorite, short, but you learn so much. You have really inspired me to get into music theory as well!

Perhaps some breakdown and in depth examples of scales next time, instead of just showing off.

Never knew the third one, thanks so much. A cool trick is to move the minor scale shape down three frets and the same shape becomes the major.

I literally just started playing and honestly the only reason that I even picked up guitar like last week was because I wanted to play old school delta blues or Mississippi blues. I want to learn to play with a slide and play like my grandpa did on the porch when I was a kid....i am determined to learn it.

To create some Allman Brothers/Marshall Tucker Band type blues ideas you can also mix the diatonic scale that goes with each pentatonic.
