WayDroid - Android Apps on Ubuntu Touch - WhatsApp (2022-05-19)

Running Android apps on Ubuntu Touch (Pixel 3a) using WayDroid. WhatsApp is used as an example.

Commands used for installation:
sudo -s
sudo mount -o remount,rw /
apt update
apt install waydroid -y
waydroid init
sudo reboot

Nice. It slowly becomes somewhat usable. I like that it adds the app icon in Ubuntu phone directly.
Do notifications already work? And is the battery time badly influenced, when Waydroid is open permanently?
I would actually switch to UT as soon as there's a “seemless“ integration of Waydroid.

So its basically android and linux so why cant we install android apps directly

So I've seen the installation of the Ubuntu Touch OS and seems quite easy but what should I do if I needed to rollback to the stock android. Just flashing using the stock rom would rollback to it's original version? Or it needs any other workaround? And what's the need of flashing twrp and rooting the device as you've done in the previous video?

It's good to see that it works but what about the security aspect ? Isn't the whole point of using UT that you don't want certain Apps snooping around and reporting your location or your messages ?...Is there any way that WhatsApp can be reporting anything to anybody through Waydroid ?

I installed it on to my pixel 3a but when i try to launch waydroid it keeps loading until infinety and doesn't start. Do you maybe know how to fix this?

How fast/slow is it? You touch screen rly slowly... Is it that bad?

Hi is there anyway to expand the root directory because i want to install more apps on waydroid. The limit on /dev/root is only 3gb and most things are installed there..

This doesn't work, when you run 'waydroid init' it downloads the wrong image for the HALIUM_9 sargo device, which would be the lineage-16 in the video, but it downloads a lineage-18 system image that won't work

Wait a second. You downloaded the APK of WhatsApp, but Wi-fi was not turned on in Waydroid. (It's pretty obvious at 8:04, even) Did he download the Apk using the Wi-fi connection that came to Ubuntu Touch, so now this Waydroid? 😐
