Dark Sun was always my favorite TSR setting.

To me Dark Sun and Ravenloft were the most fascinating D&D settings. I had Dark Sun, supplements like the one about tribes composed of former gladiators, I was even reading the novel series. It was so full of fresh, unique ideas. My group was playing Forgotten Realms. I remember the look on their faces when I told them that each of them had to make not one but four characters (!), simply because the setting is so deadly. Best D&D setting there ever was in my book.

Rewatching this video a year later. The more i play and dark sun I realize that 2E is the only edition for Dark Sun. It was specifically designed for it and the psionics rules and the way ability scores and magic works. Great review

The stars and moons are aligned because I too recently had this tome delivered from Drivethrurpg at my place. Dark Sun for the win!

The cloth map version was the expanded and revised one from 1995. That's a great box set also, as it focuses more on the world and less on Tyr. That version had a supplement for halflings called Windriders of the Jagged Cliffs that was pretty amazing. Basically, these halflings lived in villages hanging off the cliff faces and had all sorts of symbiotic bio-constructs that they used as tools and weapons. Really different take on the race. I think halflings were also the oldest race of the setting too.

I was interested in Dark Sun, but like you I could not find anyone willing to play it or run it. It made me think of D&D mashed with John Carter of Mars and a touch of Dune.

I ordered this last week along with the POD Planescape and Rules Cyclopedia - all as softcovers. I completely agree about the POD hardcovers.

I just got mine this past Friday, along with The Scarlet Brotherhood for Greyhawk, Dragonlance Classics Volume 3, and the Book of Artifacts. I'm thinking Spelljammer and Ravenloft are gonna be my next two purchases. What I really want, though, are the Dragonlance and Taladas box sets as POD.

If you love Dark Sun, but wonder if the campaign setting could use more science-fantasy and gonzo, then check out Cha'alt.

Great looking book, I'm glad I know about POD now. Have you considered doing an appendix N episode?

I still have my original box set and a few of the supplements and BOXED and spiral bound (!) adventure modules. This is a fancy reprint!!

those drawings by Brom really just sell the setting so well. for those not familiar, one of the creators of dark sun made a spiritual successor called Dragon Kings and it's not bad at all! pretty interesting ideas in there and sufficiently different. replacing mysteries with other.. reworking the thirteen, magic etc.. interesting ideas.. very metal
