My dad got me this book out of the blue because he’d heard I was sad. It completely changed my life.

I loved my 2E bard. She also had the base minimum charisma but managed to *ahem* 'acquire' a mask of beauty that bumped her up to an 18. Pandora ended up becoming a truly memorable character. Btw-it's Prime-r not prim-er :)

I'm done with 5e and I'm looking forward to trying out the ad&d for the first time

You could still find Half-orcs, they were in the monster manual, the bonuses were +1 to STR & CON! but -2 to CHA. Also had the lowest max lv per class for balance

That is a very interesting character sheet. I've never seen an ADnD sheet quite so plain. They're always so cluttered and hard to find any info. If anything, this alone has been super helpful

I started with 1st-edition AD&D and have played and run all the editions. No one I ever came across used 3d6 despite being the Method 1 in the 2e PHB. It was always 4d6/dtl or point buy. It's weird how 2e went back to OD&D in that respect.

I have been binging these older videos because they give a good view into how the game has shifted over the decades.

Around the time 2nd Edition was released, I was 12, and we were already using the "Roll 4 dice, re-roll 1s, and keep the highest 3, and arrange them to taste." Method.
Honestly, even in 1st Edition, my first DM never had us only roll 3d6 straight down the line, he preferred a little more (hopeful) survival from his players.

Even with the 4d6 method, my first Half-Elf Cleric was still dead after about 20 minutes of real-world game time in 1st Edition.

My dad played dnd 2e so it's pretty interesting to see how different it was back then

This was a fun video! Hoping to run an AD&D second edition campaign one day! :)

With the hit TV series KUNG FU (1972-1975), everyone was hot for Monks. But in 2nd-edition they were removed?

The only thing that you might have added was Secondary Skills. We actually used secondary skills with AD&D by using the backstory for characters to determine your skill. The new rules in 2E gave us a little more to go on but as I said, we were already doing it with AD&D.

Dear mother of God, I looked so hard after a video like this - YT refuses to give me a good search result but finally I'm here! ♥ Thanks!

the only drawback to rolling this way is you have someone playing a character class they really don't want to, or too many of one class. We always did the method where you roll 6 combinations, but then assign them as you wish, not in the order they are rolled. Or another great way is to use one of the many methods for rolling characters found in the original Unearthed Arcana (the unofficial edition 1.5 AD&D)

Shame that this excellent work does not encompass the wonderful Complete Handbooks or weirdo Tome of Magic specialties.

I watched this video like roughly 10 times to make sure I was making my character right when I first made my Planescape character at 5th level XD

Thanks for this video! Now I have 4 different characters, 2 active a planar half elf fighter for Planescape and a Human Samurai for an OA game that’s a 1e/2e hybrid.

Ah yes, 2nd edition. Made on order of the then owner of TSR, Lorraine Williams, who bought out two of the shareholders and then used that power to vote Gygax out of his own company.

She had 2nd edition made out of pure spite: if Gygax didn’t have a hand in it, he received no royalties for the product.

As for half-orcs, she thought they were ugly.

It's been 30 years since I last played. This brought a huge smile to my face 😊

I love your videos. I especially enjoyed this one. However, I feel this video is missing out on a lot by not going into the proficiencies stuff, especially non-weapon proficiencies.

Thanks for the video, It really helped in making my first ever character sheet in 2e.
However, having padded or studded leather armor comes with a price: climb walls should have suffered a 30% decrease, Detect Noise by 10% and Pick Pockets by 30% (PHB p. 39, Table 29). So skills should have been: Climb Walls 20%, Detect Noise 10%, Pick Pockets -10% (character can't pick pockets anymore) and Read Lang 25%.

From what I'm reading, everything is correct if we consider basic leather armor instead of padded armor (?)
