I’m a licensed cosmetologist of almost a decade of experience. I’ve had many moms and dads bring their long haired daughters into my shop with matted hair! My first question is “did they go to bed with their hair wet and was it combed after washing?”. There’s a lot of reason behind the question. What happens is, while they’re sleeping, their hair is drying, they might be tossing and turning, and the hair is shedding all at the same time. The hair starts to dry with all of that shedding hair, it tangles up while they move around in their sleep, therefore you have lots of tangles. It’s easier for that shedding hair to escape when dry. I think what you’re doing is great. As long as their hair dries great overnight and you plan to take it out to brush in the morning 😊
