Go to askjan.org to learn about ADHD and the American Disabilities Act. While askjan.org is based in the USA, its resources and information can be valuable for individuals and organizations worldwide who are looking for guidance on workplace accommodations.

I have a legal right but, in Canada at least, the stigma is still so strong that it can be a career limiting move to admit it let alone ask for accommodations. Diagnosed in 2022 (at 51!) and still only my most immediate family know.

This is the first I have heard about this website. Please make sure to add the link to your next few videos. As isolated as I am, there are still people I am aware of that desperately need this resource.

I’m in Australia and have addhd + asd & I find it extremely hard for a workplace to accomodate me in general, and when anything does happen that they find they don’t like that I have legally done nothing wrong they will lie & throw me under the bus.

I am a federal employee with ADHD and have an accommodation. One thing that was hard in asking for help was not knowing exactly what to ask for.

I feel like the only way to realistically ask an employer for accommodations is to have worked there for a bit, so you can observe the system they have in place and prove your worth, then create a plan of action then you are just asking for permission to implement something that will make you do your job better. You have proven your worth, and show that you are taking responsibility for yourself so that you can be of even more worth to them, not putting the work on them and being a burden.

You are a gem for sharing so much genuinely helpful information.

We can also explore gentle accommodations too if we’re not yet prepared to ask for formal accommodations. These can be ways to test the waters and also build up to the formal ask.

I love that theres a website for this. My husband had to fight for accomodations as simple as 'can you out your request in writing so i can refer to it later'. Like, bruh Im not trying to screw you over Im just gonna forget this in 20 minutes.

I've been reading your book on audible.
It's great!

Awesome!! I think even further that accommodations should even be baked seamlessly into the fabric of the workplace, remote and in-person! So that less inclined employers can incorporate them into workplace standards, policies, and.. oh the ADA! Perhaps, legislation needs to further highlight or bolster the inclusion of ADHD!

If I asked for accommodations Id be laughed out of the office. Id be labeled a nuisance who thought i was special and deserved special treatment. Id be the laughing stock and would be treated as less fir the rest of my employment. I work a state job as well. Sink or swim and figure things out on your own is their motto.

Not diagnosed ADHD, and expect I will fall off that diagnosis. That being said, your videos help and I purchased your book. Thank you.

If you have a good HR department (l believe my job does), they’ll probably appreciate you sharing this resource with them. I think most good companies want their employees to do their best & if there’s a reasonable way to do that, they’re (hopefully) game to find out more.

Indirectly the workplace knows about it and that's how I'm keeping it. They allow me to work pretty much unhindered knowing I get the work done.
