A man has been bitten by a shark at Elliston on South Australia's coast.

The 64-year-old was surfing when the attack occurred.

A Great White Shark is believed to be the assailant and the confrontation took place around 200 metres offshore.

South Australia's Ambulance Service says the man drove himself to hospital after refusing to be transported by an ambulance.

He was then flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital and his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

It seems to be a good idea to wear a tourniquet, (or carry a bang-stick) when surfing.
