This fossil is so great because in my brain, it bridges that gap between dinosaurs being a concept and dinosaurs being real life living animals. I feel like it’s easy to see dinosaurs as fiction, if that makes any sense. You see them in drawings and rendered, sometimes their bones. But to see the animal itself, the real thing as it truly looks in real life. It’s no longer the concept of a dinosaur. It’s a mummified animal. That’s why this fossil has always fascinated me.

I'VE SEEN IT IN REAL LIFE!! Pictures do it absolutely no justice. Absolutely magnificent to see the whole thing in person, the detail is breathtaking. You can so clearly imagine this animal living and breathing next to you. So lucky. ❤

You can see it at the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada

This and the hadrosaur mummy were two fossils that have actually brought me to tears (and just from pictures, it would be amazing if I could see them in person! If I got to just place my hand on it I might actually faint from emotion.)

The fact that we can now know what COLOR it was is just...amazing.

My head canon is that folklore of dragons and dragon slayers are all just proto-archeologists, accidentally finding dinosaurs.

I watched the long form about this a while back and it amazed me just how lifelike it still was

Makes you wonder just how many amazing fossils have already been lost, due to business ventures just drilling away

It just baffles me, how this 18ft creature was just roaming freely. And he wasn't even the biggest of them. Imagine humans living in those days, we would probably be living behind city walls like Attack of Titans😅

Even being heavily armoured and robustly built, this spectacular _Borealopelta markmitchelli_ specimen (the holotype, from the discovery and study of which, the name originated) is still incredibly rare and was always unlikely to be found, quarry or not.

Wonderful, albeit somewhat random. During excavation, there was a sincere attempt to remove it in a large block which happened to break into smaller pieces at the last moment, causing much more work to have to be done. The repair was almost as impressive as the finished result. It's an Albian Age/Stage Nodosaurid.

I saw it right after they decided to display it, it is absolutely stunning to look at. The Royal Tyrrell Museum is one of my favourite museums.

I wrote a report on this particular fossil. the amount of information we’ve gathered from this one specimen alone is outstanding!

Imagine going to your 9-5 excavating at the oil sands, then end up finding one of the best preserved fossils of all time

I have a tattoo of this fossil! I’ve seen it in person, it’s crazy how well you can imagine what it was like in life, the face is so clearly and well preserved it feels like it’s looking at you

The environmentalism leaving my body as soon as I learn that oil sands contain dinosaurs...
