F1's major rule changes for the cars have been pushed back to 2022, and the current cars are being carried over for 2021... right? Sort of. Rule changes are still being made for next year, and in this video Edd Straw explains what they are, and why the FIA has felt the need to try to curb the performance of the fastest F1 cars ever. We also round up the other minor changes on and off-track that are being made for next season.

I bet by the end of next year the engineers will have found ways to recover the downforce to levels they had in 2020 . I think the downforce cut at the beginning of the season will probably be about half what the FIA expects.

There's another innovation that isn't mentioned here and that is Mercedes cooling fins wheels. These fins distributed the heat evenly across the wheel and acted like cooling fins to cool the tires which gave them an edge in stints. This is also outlawed for next year.

The fact that the side slots are being eliminated, this seems to me that the teams with the high rake set up will be effected the most- as they have to spend more effort sealing the floor to fully take advantage of the rake. And noting how Red Bull struggles to get their set up working ever year, it sure looks like they are going to be doing the same, again.

Merc and Racing Point will have the least challenge with their lower rake set up. But it will be interesting to see if any of the back markers can't get the floor to seal, which would make the change largely irrelevant..
