Mr Clark, I enjoy your videos very much. As a teenager I was around the sand and permanent mold casting business in the 60s and 70s. I do have a couple of observations. We would never pour a sand molded casting with a flask around the mold. Our flasks were removed from the sand mold before casting. The cope and drag were tapered just for this reason. Additionally where you use dowels to align the cope/drag and match plate we had adjustable alignment using triangle steel guides – set the flask and match plate up in the morning and mold all day. Also you do not talk about temperature of the molten aluminum for the pour. We always did test pours to determine the proper temp. Too low a temp and you got voids in the gates or casting. Too high a temp and you got wasted time/energy and increased shrinkage. Keep up the good videos.
