If anyone used to watch pro wrestling, “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff had atrophy in his arm due to a pinched nerve. He had a noticeably smaller arm towards the end of his career.

What a difference aging and maturity makes in a person. Couldn't listen to a younger Mir. Now to see the growth and experience of the guy is refreshing. Listening to this interview shows me this guy goes through the same shit as athletes we all go through as we age. Hats off to you working through it Mir. I seem to have a different ache or pain every time I push to seek levels of my younger self. The common denominator is we push through it and keep going.

I’m dealing with exactly the same pathology as Frank. I went to the gym, and after having curled 26kg (57 lbs) in each arm for 10 reps the week before, I couldn’t curl 6kg with my left arm. Same strength loss in the shoulder and chest. I also thought MS, but after seeing 4 neurologists, an orthopaedic surgeon and a spinal surgeon, and after 2 neck MRIs, a nerve conduction study and electromyography, they concluded it was a C4/C5 nerve impingement due to disc degeneration caused by years of grappling. Its taken me 9-months to get back to 85% strength, and was told I may never make a full recovery. Its no joke.

One of the best HW in MMA ever. The man was a beast. After the accident he wasn't the same but still gave us lots of great fight.

Some older folks might remember this same thing happening to Bas Rutten. His arm atrophied badly for years effectively ending any chance for a comeback all because some guy in the gym crunched him into a corner with a can opener to avoid tapping to Bas' triangle choke.

Frank you are a legend of MMA and have given fans many memorable nights, you never ducked anyone and it's a travesty you aren't working full time for UFC in some corporate role. I hope your health improves and you stay healthy, god bless ☘️

I wasn't the biggest Frank Mir fan, but he kept it real and can definitely bang with the biggest and best guys in MMA. Sad to see this happening to a legend honestly. You got this Frank

Frank is one of the best commentators in MMA history. It would be great to see him do more fights.

Bas Rutten had the same thing, not sure his right arm is still back 100% and it was years ago.

I have erb's palsy while not as severe as most case my right arm is missing muscle definition and mobility compared to the left. I can't even touch my back with my right arm..was born like this and took a lot of shit for it growing up but it doesn't bother me anymore just who I am and something I have to overcome. I say this to say don't ever be ashamed of who you are, and don't let anything ever limit your potential in life. Adapt and overcome

Battle scars from a warrior. The constant abuse clearly took a toll, but we all can’t leave out of here pristine

Being old is no joke. My brother and I are 40 and 43, and we used to work out to get lean and strong. Now we work out to slow the decay, but it hurts way more, for longer now.

It’s just further proof of the sad reality that the human body is not designed for constant full contact fighting and training, Frank is a legend but there is a expiration date on the fight game and it’s far earlier then most realize, the long grueling camps and then the high impact of the actual fight itself is devastating on a person’s body and mind

Age and injuries over time get the best of us. Frank is a legend.

Frank was my favorite fighter growing up. Watching a big dude move like that and break Silva's arm. Shit was crazy
