Never done it before unless cantilever, but this makes perfect sense load bearing. 👍

You usually install them upside down when you got too much overhang on a balcony or roof. Thats what I've seen carpenters do. I am just a roofer

I mean, esthetically I can see why you built it that way but ideally, you'd actually make a true beam, lowered below the hosts if you wanted to have an overhang in both directions.

That would be the 'strongest' way to do it.
