I 100% agree with you. I work with risk management and I believe that risk should be discussed all time. Risk workshop is only to start the process in a project, and involve all the people. But the main risks appear during the works day, coffee break, coordenation meeting, performance meeting, etc. I like to structure my risk framework with bimonth workshops, and introduce in project culture the process to identify risk during the common meetings. Just like every project meeting have time to discuss about engineering, construction, security, healthy, assembly, ... all meeting should to destinate a piece of time to discuss risks, only to identify. After that, in another situation, the risk facilitator could take more information and qualifications about the risk. Over the years that I have workr with risk mamagement, this way have been funcional.

I think they are better used as networking oppotunities where other job functions as well as RM's join in - and we all SHARE ideas. Over time, your cognition broadens, new ideas develop, etc. just a thought

Risk workshops are a pointless ceremony by which execs think they have 'managed risk'. Nonsensical. A project or business risk profile continually changes and needs to be developed according to a business-wide risk management plan and continuously reaassessed. This starts with a 'Risk Breakdown Structure', and developed in terms of the business environment interrogated by a SSM 'CATWOE' framework. Then likely vulnerabiliteis are examined on an actuarial basis for likely effective cost range for the risk event. This can then be examined in a symposium (the grown-up's name for a 'workshop').
