There are two types of solid surface that people usually choose for their driveways - either asphalt or concrete. A lot of times asphalt is assumed to be less expensive, but you have to consider cost of maintenance. I'll tell you my thoughts on which is best for your application.

You can do 1 footer concrete pours on each edge of asphalt to keep a straight edge

Didn't know that about asphalt but personally like the look of concrete better.
I'll ask this question in case anyone wants to know - What is the price difference between asphalt and concrete?
