SSHD Seagate 1TB vs HDD vs SSD Prices & Availability:

Seagate SSHD 2.5" Hybrid Hard Drive review and opinion.

Hey guys, so here i am sharing my tests and comparison between the Seagate SSHD 2.5" Hard Drive vs a mechanical Hard Drive and a SSD

Results are really nice specially when we consider the prices that we pay for a SSHD vs a SSD with the same capacity.

In terms of real world usage as you guys can see on the graphics and on the recorded videos with timings, the SSHD from Seagate can reach almost the same performance than the SSD in situations such as boot times and opening aps. And compared with a mechanical HDD the difference and the user experience is huge.

Hope you guys enjoy the video and that its helpful for those that are in the same situation as i was.
All the Best

Nice informative review man, your video helped me to decide to buy a Seagate 1Tb SSHD. I'm really digging the boost in speed in my almost 5 year old laptop without breaking the bank. Your actual demo with the added side by side scores plus your explanation helped convince me, great job!

Hi Roberto. Just to mention, about 2 years ago i switched my 2009 iMac 640gb HD to a SSHD Seagate 3.5" 2Tb 7200rpm and it became alive again. Didn't notice a big diference in read/write performance but i noticed it much more stable and yes, boot and app open much faster.
Roberto, sound is a bit of in this video, the bass in your voice is very loud, is there any eco in your room or your mic is a bit far from your mouth.
Abraço.

SSHD all the way, they are dirt cheap now. I picked up a brand new 1 TB Seagate Hybrid on craigslist for 40 bucks. My old 7200 1TB took 36 seconds to boot windows 10. After 5 reboots my SSHD is down to 16 seconds.

excellent review because of your review I was planning on getting 960GB SSD on amazon OCZ Trion 100 Series $220 this SSHD you mention 1TB found on Amazon for $56 saved me tons of money I'm very happy. True SSHD might be little slower then standard SSD you pay the money for what you get.

Nice video. Not sure why y'all folks been tripping about some 10s tho... It is true that large SSDs are expensive, but 250-500Gb are pretty affordable. Sit tight and save up for a few months to get you a better drive, not a hybrid. Also with some laptops replacing the DVD drive with a hard drive is available (Asus, Lenovo, etc).

Hey great video, I purchased this drive for my PS4 Pro a couple of days ago and it just works great. Load time has decreased  a fair amount, but it's dropping all the time. Would love to try them in an nas to see how fast they are. Although nowadays they are becoming scarce in stores. Great drives if you can get your hands on them.

Hey Robert,
I was looking at these a while back. Wondered if they worked similar to Apple "fusion array" drive setup. I put a 256GB Samsung 830 series SSD into my Mac and used apples disk utils to create an array with the 1 TB factory drive.. Works great, but there is a noticeable performance hit. But still more then fast enough..

Currently using HP Pavilion 14. It's been 6 years. Last month there're problems with the hard drive. I want to swap to an SSD until I found out about SSHD. Will swap for a Seagate Firecuda. For an old laptop, the price to performance ratio kinda rationalized. I know it's 3 years old video, but anyway thank you for your explanation.

Very good compromise. Just tried to get an info if they were worth it and everybody are claiming it's better to get an ssd while I'm sure they never even had or tested an sshd themselves. Also everybody are claiming stuff about the sshd that are completely false such as they are not that much faster than an hdd. I mean, according to your speed test, they are way closer to an ssd than an hdd. Also, if you can get the 4 times the capacity for the same price of an ssd, they are totally worth it imo. I think I'll get one at some point. Cheap ssd for windows, sshd for games and apps, hdd for files.

Can FPS drops be caused by a slow drive? or is it my Laptop's stock generic 8gb Ram?
My laptop came with a TOSHIBA MQ01ABD100 1TB HDD and I've got it quite full now though I've already noticed it to be slow even when my laptop was new and I'm wondering what to upgrade.

I'm experiencing frequent fps drops even though my fps is 200 above in CSGO it just sinks to 9fps for a few 15seconds or so then floats back up to 200. It's very annoying and I don't know if this is a weak GPU or not because how is it able to reach 200 if it is and just sinks to 9fps suddenly. Can't be overheating because it's stable at 70 degrees celsius (GPU) and HDD at 49 or so.

I'm wondering if this can be solved by replacing my HDD with a faster HDD or SSHD completely. Thinking about getting an SSD but my laptop only has 1 drive slot and I wouldn't want it to end up with a mere 120GB of SSD storage only.

Hope someone can point out what I can do here. Thanks!

The Seagate will increase load time of applications once it realizes you use those frequently and it is stored in the internal nand. Plus you get 8x the storage capacity.

Is it worth to add SSD in my setup? I have HDD 1TB 5400rpm with 8gb ram and intel i7 6500u. I mostly use my laptop for multimedia.
