Why You Should Swing a Mace or Gada | Benefits of Using a Macebell or Steel Mace

After being asked this question a lot of times, I decided to sit down and sum up the benefits of swinging a mace. In short I've focussed on the muscles being involved in the swing and some of the benefits that come with more complex flow. I put a lot of effort into this, so if you enjoyed it or learned something do leave a like, comment or consider to subscribe :).

Great presentation Thank you much ! I am 71, fit, and very willing to fight the stiffness that most people let develop in their later years. Whole body / mind coordination, move like a jaguar, get the blood flowing ! Fabulous !

Really great presentation, sums it all up. I have a 5kg mace that I use almost every day, sometimes twice a day. I also have a 10 kg mace which is a totally different world of pain! I only use this one twice a week to allow my tendons to recover.
My general muscle tone, shoulder mobility, grip strength (obv) have all improved enormously since I started using maces. So I can confirm everything that you say.
Keep up the good work!

Thank you verry much! I am a martial arts teacher and we focus our conditioning around natural movement. The addition of the mace just clicked right into place.

The mace teaches so many martial arts basics its quite ridiculous 😅😀

One of the most important lessons I think we learn from the mace is control Vs chaos which is exactly what's going on when sparring with an opponent

Have been doing gada training consistently for a year now. Results include better performance at the gym, increased stamina and muscle endurance, much better conditioning for boxing and Muay Thai, can perform a lot of unusual old school gym lifts and so much more. Most importantly I feel much tougher than I did before.

Definitely recommend for everybody.

5 days ago my mace got delivered at home. On day 1 I could barely do a 360, because I was afraid. On day 2 it got easier, now on day 5 we're getting somewhere, but I have to say... I have desk job and have Herbert's videos on display all day long, so that helps a lot! thanks man

Excellent video! I bought one for these very reasons. I’m tired of the same ol same ol of lifting. I am a retired concrete contractor where I became an expert sledge hammer swinger. I used to swing it “around the world” driving stakes, instead of the conventional swing it to strike, pick it up, repeat. As soon as I saw a video of someone swinging a mace, I knew I had to have one and learn it. I hope you have many more videos; this one is the best I have seen explaining everything. I am anxious to learn this art.

Great as always! The fun part is always overlooked but it’s one of the key to be truly healthy

Naudi, I gave you a hard time about 10 years ago, telling you Id had more benefits in yoga. You called me a tool lol. 🙏🏼 fair play.

Id bought all your content and really noticed incredible benefits through the principles you’d developed, things I’d never been taught in the same way. Transverse plane/ slings etc…how integral in all functional movement these things were.

You’re still a pioneer to me. I’m grateful for all you’ve done.

Great video highlighting history, technique & benefits. I started using maces 3 years ago at 57, now 60 years and my shoulders are more resilient. The exercises really compliment Kettlebell & Steel Club training as you become stronger all over integrated strength

As soon as I heard of Persian Meel swings I began using 15 oz 24" aluminum T-Ball bats to practice.
After 6 months I had lost 50 pounds and had added 2½ pound weights to each.
I also use kettlebells and a bamboo bo with 2½ pounds on each end.
I'm 60, have been using bo, meel, and kettlebells for a year now.
This is the first video I have watched about it, except for the Iron Sheik using 150 lb meels.
I do 300 meel swings
300 bo strikes & swings and 300 26 lb kettlebell swings daily.

I might buy a steel mace at one point but I got the T-Ball bats, bo, and the 26 lb kettlebell at Goodwill for under $20, so I doubt it.
Instead I will just add more reps.

In addition to the weight loss I've lost 4 inches off my waist, and am in better shape at 60 than I was in the Army at 25, doing PT every day.
I do have a Cavalry Saber from the 1800s that I occasionally wield, and this training has made that sword seem as light as a drumstick.

i agree 100%, whenever i have any sort of free time I grab my mace and have some fun. I've also studied many forms of weapons training and mace training makes my weapons feel so light. All the best to you Sir cause you got me into working with the mace. I also think your politeness and class is excellent.😃👍

I've trained Martial Arts for thirty years and as soon as I picked up a light Mace, I understood why the King of every civilization ever welds a mace!

Mace training contains most of the same movement patterns as using weapons and/or tools. It's the movement that defines us as humans I reckon!

Surprised how great and informative this video is! Bravo! When I saw the mace/gada workout for the first time, I immediately realized this is a fantastic whole upper body workout.

That flow martial art form is what I will be using it for. Just ordered a 5 and 7 lb mace.

I started swinging a mace and clubs about 2 months ago. I haven't gotten consistent yet but I'll pick it up randomly when watching TV and swing them around on top of when I do a routine.
