Even though in the West, “Caucasian” is seen as a synonym for White, the actual meaning of the word is to refer to the people of the Caucasus mountains, many of which would not be seen as European or White due to close historic and cultural ties with Asia and the Iranic and Turkic worlds. The word was appropriated from its actual use by Johann Blumenbach and has since been used in race science to push unscientific ideas of biological race. The reality is race is a social construct, Europeans as all other Homo Sapiens come from Africa.

Click the video in the caption for more historical information on why this happened.

In the past I've gotten in trouble for telling people not to call white people Caucasian but now I think the best way to go about it is don't invalidate actual Caucasian people by calling white people Caucasian, if that makes sense.

I love how the photos you included were very diverse from the Caucasus region <3 Ossetians, Armenian, Georgian, Azerbaijani.

fun fact: the term caucasian became a synonym for white when some racist scientist analyzed scull shapes to figure out which was the “prettiest”. the people from the caucus mountains were his favorite, so he said that they were the foundation for the white race, and that was where the use of caucasian was founded

I'm so glad more people are learning this, I've always hated when people call me Caucasian because I am not. Like, if someone put me n a Caucasian person next to each other n told to guess whos Caucasian most people in the west would say me because they think white = caucasian. It's so frustrating and I'm sure it's frustrating for actual Caucasians too.

As a Caucasian from the actual Caucasus this used to confuse me so much as a child. Like I’d see white Americans say they were Caucasian and I’d be like no ?

On another note, I don’t like how people originating from Europe are called “white” and people from Africa are called “black.” Like, people don’t go around calling asians yellow. Those are just skin colours, white, black and yellow are not races. Call people European, African, Asian, etc.

As a Caucasian I will confirm that we are not literally white. We are really mix of everything. There are very pale skinned white people or tan skined people even yellow skinned people like me and of course mix of that three. We have different traditions from both europeans and asians.

Im tires of American culture being the norm on the internet, their view on ethnicity and race is so narrow

And this is why my grandparents stressed that we were Anglo-Saxon, not Caucasian. Thanks for explaining it to another generation ❤

You dont have a lot of comments yet, but I want to thank you for your content. I have learned a tremendous amount behind the Roma culture and people, and I am so thankful to have come across your content a few years ago. I love learning about history and culture, and I have to say that the education you are providing to people is not only important, but incredible.

I've always wondered why we're called Caucasian when that's an actual people.

I'm from Georgia 🇬🇪 and still don't get why they call European-origin white people "caucasian" here in the U.S.

Thank you so much for spreading awareness! It boils my blood whenever i see memes with a sound "that's Caucasian, from the mountains of Caucasus" depicting any Karens or just audacious rude people. I'm Circassian and we have such a strong moral code and etiquette it pains me when we're associated with rude and obnoxious people 😢 My people went through a genocide to keep our dignity and we're put in the same category as a woman yelling in a grocery store...

There are even Afro Black populations in the Caucuses right now. This part of the world is and has always been very diverse for thousands of years. Herodotus talked about the Colchians being there, a Black as he called them, "Ethiopian people with wooly hair and black skin" America created this Eugenics idea of Caucasian being whyt. It's a silly pseudo scientific racism trope. It's extremely ignorant and I thank you for correcting the record. I love your channel 💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽💪🏼One love💯

I absolutely love your videos and as an Armenian, it really pisses me off whenever I have to put on a form what I identify as culturally. There’s usually almost never Middle Eastern and I never know what to put down except white. The problem is that even though that’s my skin color, I’m not white I’m Eastern European bc everyone in America can’t actually define where the Middle East is. The Middle East is literally where Syria and Jordan are it’s that whole area that’s considered middle eastern. So me putting down middle eastern on those forms is still wrong.
I showed my mom one of your videos on the word Caucasian and it completely changed her perspective because she realized that for decades Armenians have been called Caucasian even though that’s not even accurate. I showed the same video to my AP World History teacher and she loved it bc she learned something new. Thank you for your channel and for spreading awareness ❤️

Everything about them is so beautiful and ethereal. The hair, clothes, accessories. All the outfits looks like they took their time picking what to wear, so it would be perfect and represent something. I don’t know, I just love cultural* clothing, it’s so special and beautiful.

*Is cultural the right word? Please correct me if it’s not, English isn’t my first language

I would love to see you collaborate with nytn on this . She’s done a really interesting series on her channel about who was considered white and when throughout American history specifically. As a mixed roma girl, I’ve learned so much from you about my heritage. Thank you
