My wife uses the Zote bar ( grates it) armor hammer detergent & 20 mule borax- puts in 5 gal bucket with hot water. Stirs with paint stick. Next day pours into saved ( used) laundry containers. We are on septic and have allergies, so this combo works great! Also to pretreat a stain.. pour on stain & let it sit a while.

I store a few of the giant jugs with tap from Costco. Save jugs for washing water.

I personally used those DIY powdered laundry detergent recipes .
I used it for 6 months on all my family's clothing at first it seemed like it was working but no it did not work at all .
I used about two tablespoons per load of laundry with some white vinegar as my fabric softener.
My daughter began to get a rash from her so-called clean clothing.
Are clothing began to feel yucky as well as our towels began to feel stiff.
And are clothing never seemed to smell good.
The biggest problem with DIY home detergent is that it causes great build up in your machine as well on your clothing.
My washing machine kept on breaking on me because of the build up of chemicals from the DIY detergent.
The zote bar did not fully dissolved as well as the other ingredients and I would find clumps of it on many of my clothing.
I do dissolve some pure plain Epsom salt with a few drops of pure lavender oil and some witch hazel with some white vinegar and I do place at least two tablespoons into my washing machine directly once in a while .
I make sure that it is fully dissolved.
Mainly I just use plain white vinegar to soften my clothing with a few drops of lavender pure oil .
Many of these dry ingredients do not dissolve completely which causes a lot of damage to your washing machine.
I'd rather use name brand laundry detergent that has been manufactured for the purpose of washing your laundry make sure to use only one to two tablespoons per load a little goes a long way.
Absolutely do not use liquid fabric softener of any kind as well as fabric sheets in your dryer because they are toxic as well as they build up residue in your washing machine as well as your dryer causing damage to your machines and your health.
I personally use a wool ball and a few drops of pure lavender oil some witch hazel to combined it together.
One 6 oz glass spray bottle.
Two tablespoons of witch hazel .
25 drops of your favorite pure essential oils.
And some distilled water.
Mix it together and place it into the bottle with a funnel.
Spray it once or twice on your wool ball and throw it into your dryer.
My clothing feels so much better and smells so much better now.
And my washing machine and my dryer are not constantly being repaired.
It is extremely hard to find anyone who knows how to fix your washer or dryer .
I also hand washed many of my items and dry them outside or in the basement.
As long as it is not raining or snowing you can dry outside.
Yes it takes some time during the winter to dry but it is worth it and you save on energy.
I believe everyone should know how to hand wash your laundry as well as gathered rain water for emergency purposes.
It is always fun to see how other people do their laundry.

I buy laughdry soap when its cheap but I use my own homemade laundry soap. My most fave thing about it if I accidentally leave my in washer a couple days it doesn't sour and stink. Smells amazing.

Ahhh.. I see somebody else mentioned using old liquid laundry detergent bottles and busting up stored rock hard powder to mix with water and form your own liquid detergent. I generally keep 6 big bottles of A&H liquid and two 25lb bags of granular washing powder. Which for me with tow big dogs and occasional visitors will last me 14-18 months of normal use.

I save my Dollar Tree 3/4 gallon bleach containers and have a bunch of Clorox Tabs. Meant for commercial cleaning but when I dissolve on tablet in 3/4 gallon of water it makes a very strong bleach. Most times I split between two bottles and top off with water to keep from having accidents while doing laundry.

For long term storage I always store with oxygen absorbers in a container. I simply save them when I find them in products I purchase (store out of reach of children and pets), but they can also be purchased. Hope this helps. 🙂

Can you share the best way to store instant mashed potatoes for long term, and how does one know if they should use a Mylar bag with an oxygen absorber or with out if it’s salt or sugar, or a vacuuming seal food saver or different foods for long-term storage?

Dye and fragrance free liquid HE (high efficiency) soap is what I buy. I get it at Costco when it goes on sale.i save the empty push button dispensers to fill with water and set them on the bathroom counter for hand washing during power outages. I keep them full of water under the sinks, marked “hand washing” with a Sharpie.
