I remember listening to this live and thinking to myself “he’s gonna be one of us soon.” This is probably the best Jay has ever explained TAG to an atheist, and I think it’s because this guy approached Jay with respect and didn’t have his ego wrapped up in his arguments. Made for a fruitful conversation. God bless this guy and I hope he converts. ☦️

My step dad is a 155 iq software engineer with a minor in aeronautical engineering and was called by Lockheed Martin a "human lie detector" before he retired after 20 years there. He was also a devoted agnostic with atheistic tendencies. The rest of my family were Christians in the sense that they went to church on the holidays and that's about it. Needless to say, I became an athiest.

It took over a decade of nihilistic hedonism and alcohol addiction before I fully understood the repercussions of living a "life based on pleasure". Funnily enough, I was one of those slo bois who jumped on the JBP train when he came on the scene and thats when I sobered up and became a Christian; in the JBP, everything in the bible is an allegory sense.

Then I saw Jays video with Sam Hyde and that changed everything. Now I'm a first year Catechumen and trying to figure out what my next move is considering I live on Kauai and there isn't an Orthodox Parrish on island. However, its definitely not an insurmountable obstacle considering what many of our Church fathers did in accordance with their faith.

You da man Jay "the hillbilly Socrates" Dyer

Haha the guy on the line is actually my homie and no he hasn't turned yet. Hes actually trying to prepare for a new debate with Jay out of his respect for Jay's exceptional skills in logic and debate. He is a big fan of Jay. I myself am a Christian (not the most upstanding) but a Christian none the less.

Jay is so good at talking to Reddit people

Thanks for putting this clip here. Jay really breaks down why the Christian God is necessary in this interaction and I think that’s a key hangup for people.

I grew up outside of the church and was a non believer until 5 years ago. So yeah, one who was not raised in a religious home can be brought to Christ

I studied software engineering, and what Jay explained at the end is very intuitive to me. In software you could theoretically simulate a space of pure entropy (disregarding for a moment that true randomness is not possible), to produce an environment where everything is random noise, but occasionally something would appear that we would recognize as having sense and structure. Whatever this sense and structure is, it's going to disappear almost immediately. There is nothing about a space of pure entropy that would maintain this structure.

In fact, to get back to the topic of true randomness that I touched earlier, if this software would establish consistent patterns in any way, we would swiftly recognize it as proof that our random number generator is not random enough. We would see this sense and structure as proof that the space is not purely entropic.

Also note that this supposed simulation can only exist because this computer "brain" is continuously maintaining every single data-bit of the entropic space, acting from a realm of reality that exists entirely outside of the simulation. Even to imagine this theoretical perfectly entropic space, we already have to imagine something that shares several key attributes with God. This is quite telling.

Dyer has to do a book on TAG. This was actually a great primer of the position.

The problem is often with these atheist types (but you also see this within theists a lot) that they are largely ignorant of fields they havent studied like mathematics. "Numbers are self evident" is really an insane proposition if you know anything about math.

I commend Jay for the work he does. But as a Christian. this clip is hard to listen to. Not because it is too intellectual, but because he doesn't accommodate his argument to the atheists level. The guy clearly hasn't had any training in philosophy so throwing out terms like "transcendental" with out clearly explaining them just sounds like bullying, especially when he starts rapidly throwing out a whole host of terms toward the end. It would be more helpful to stick with one philosophical dilemma, like the problem of induction, and investigate that problem to show that the atheist worldview cannot account for uniformity in nature and therefore cannot reliably make generalizations about the future, upon which procedure the natural sciences depend. And so the existence of Godis proven by the impossibility of the contrary. Narrowing the focus of the debate will produce better results.

Guys, a 1979 IBM mainframe just spontaneously assembled in a spot of mineral rich warm sea water under the Ross ice shelf! It's just waiting on the power plant to spontaneously assemble then hopefully it will start working on the seti project.

Ps this transcendental argument is pretty interesting, I got my head partially around it.

30 seconds in I'm learning that some people use logic and some people go through life randomly doing things with no structure to them. Incredible.

8:44 when people say “function” it’s also a teleological judgment. How do they know they’re functioning and not disfunctioning?

I love the way Jay is so methodical and clear, he knows his shit. I've attempted to put forward these exact ideas in debates before but I didn't have the structure and relationships between them clearly defined enough to communicate thenlm really well. Listening to Jay has really helped me clarify so much of what I already had intuitions of, and he gives references! So helpful, thank you
