I buy our hog, lamb, and chicken from our local farmer friends. I do buy fish and seafood from the store though.

We spend $720 for our 1/4 cow and it comes out to $3.20 lb across the board. In Michigan, that's phenomenal beef prices. We also get a 1/2 hog from our butcher for $300. Just over $1000 a year on meat for our family of 7.

Thanks for sharing! We live in CT and my husband's family has cows, pigs and chickens! We just did a second round of slaughtering the chickens yesterday, which was a little tough as I am 33 weeks pregnant 😅 but we get our cows and pigs butchered and it is so much better quality and the price is insanely lower, especially with the variety of meats. I just rearranged my freezers so when we get our beef on Friday I am ready to put the new meat where we know it's newer and go through our little bit leftover from last year first.

We are blessed that our property bumps directly into one of SC's largest beef ranches. We know exactly how the animals are treated and how they are fed. We get a full cow every 18 months. Always under $4.00 per pound including butchering.

Awesome, thanks for supporting local farmers. My husband and I are both 4th generation farmers. We raise Dorper sheep and sell the lambs. We keep two for us. About every other year we raise 2 steers. The year in between the steers my husband and I get a deer or elk sometimes both. It really does make a difference knowing that you have full freezers. ❤
