Excellent comparison review. I own a Tesla Model 3 Long Range in Australia. I elected to buy one of the last Shanghai builds of the 2023 model, which were being sold as the Highland was commencing construction. Mine was built end of August 2023. Tesla software updates, Shanghai build quality, ride comfort and the Tesla charging network, which is growing rapidly in Australia, place Tesla ahead of many other companies. I considered Volvo, Kia and other EV’s before I made my choice. Range and charging facilities put the Tesla ahead of them all.

My 2019 has given not a single problem other than having to replace the 12 volt battery after 3.5 years. It gives me 300 miles of range and with the Tesla Supercharger network I have no fear of taking it on a long trip anywhere in the country and selected areas of Canada and Mexico. I love my Tesla.

Got myself a BYD Seal AWD 3.8 last month. After cruising around for a month and hitting over 3000 km, I'm totally stoked about this car.
But choosing the car black was a bit of a blunder. The paint job's not top-notch and needs a lot of waxing and care to keep it from looking dusty all the time.
And the new car smell was super strong, almost made me sick at first. Took some serious airing out with the windows down, a bunch of Ozone and anti-odor sprays to finally get rid of it.
If you're thinking about getting this for family road trips, it's a solid choice - it's got a 5-star EURO NCAP rating and fitting a baby car seat's a breeze thanks to the design of the back doors.

Wow.. exactly the pool of cars that are in my focus as my new daily driver in 2024 (except the I5, to big for my needs and too expensiv). If someone would have asked me for a comparison video, it would have been exactly this. Thank you soo much.

By far the best value in Australia of those in this review that are currently available down under at least for ordering, the Seal looks to be the best "bang for bucks", probably thanks to no local car industry in this country anymore to keep prices high. The Seal is available in 3 variants, Dynamic RWD (AUD~49k) Premium RWD - bigger battery and more power (AUD~59k) and Performance AWD (AUD~69k). Add 3-4k for on road/drive away price.

Whilst I like the Model 3 update, it's just a bit too minimalist for me. Not providing a HUD that could be activated/deactivated for the minimalist junkies was a silly omission. I also don't see "no stalks" as a selling point.

I was testing the new Model 3 yesterday and it's really improved. Sadly, no stalks is a deal breaker for me. Especially on smaller roundabouts its forcing you to actively looking for the right signal button. What a stupid idea.
Looking forward to test VW ID.7 once it's available in December

BYD Seal RWD long range is my choice! But Polestar 2 has the best infotainment, drive cluster of all👍
Thanks for this video!🌹🙏

It’s amazing that Tesla still wins these tests. They are so far ahead in the game. Sure, other brands are coming but it will take several years to overtake Tesla.

The model 3 looks better than the Model S. I wouldn’t trust the BYD, the Chinese aren’t there yet. Great video Thomas!

Pricewise it's a toss-up between BYD Seal and the Model 3.

Very happy with my BMW i4 over the past year. Averaging 3.7 miles/kwh. Crisp handling, balanced chassis, fun to drive. A year later, I would have given serious consideration to the i5, if only for the increased cabin space.

I am quite impressed by the ID7, for me it would be between the ID7 and the I5.

Note that contrary to the first info and contrary to how they sold the vehicle to customers, the BYD Seal does come with animal skin leather. Customers bought the vehicle expecting animal free leatherette while BYD did not offer consistent information.

Thank you for this comparison review. I am picking up my own Model 3 Performance tomorrow (6/17), trading in my made in Austin, Texas 2023 Model Y Dual Motor. I'm super excited to get my first Tesla Performance model. My previous Tesla was a 2019 Model 3 Dual Motor and I was super happy with it. Since then, I'd purchased a Model Y and recently, took delivery of a Cyberbeast after four and a half years of waiting. I am now officially a Tesla fanboy :D

I will go with ByD seal, looks the beat and it makes you feel you are in a regular car rather than electric one

Great detail and fascinating comparison.

As a publishing matter, I wonder whether there is a case, perhaps for members only, for a 30 minute summary of this with perhaps a forward look on where each marque is going.

To turn to this episode, what is clear is that Tesla in about ten years has set the benchmark against which everyone else is tested. To stick with Tesla it is clear they have not sat on their hands and have made rapid improvements to their first Tesla 3. My take is that if you consider both price and features only BYD is really keeping up on both metrics. As it happens, I would not want a Tesla or BYD and in fact this car segment is not for me.

My cousin who is about twenty years younger than me is just shelling out for a Tesla 3 to take his children to school (a 100 mile round trip 5 days a week, don’t ask). He wants an EV to save on the petrol and will install renewable charging at home so zero marginal cost per kwh. His other car is a Range Rover which guzzles gas so not ideal for a long school run. He rather likes the mobile phone on wheels UI, though I am not yet completely sold on it. I like the minimalism but miss the buttons.

If I were to go for external looks, I thought the Ioniq 6 looked pretty good. If I were to go for internal cabin I liked BMW, but perhaps that is a sign that I am a bit older than my cousin. What is clear is that the premium marques are still way off the new price points and I doubt that is sustainable.

In Canada, the 4th driving mode is actually SNOW it put the car in permanent 4wd with equal power front and back It also limit regen to level 1 and the power delivery is about equivalent to the ECO mode... BTW the car is great in the sow.... Cheers
