Linux Mint Cinnamon is a great distribution for new Linux users coming from Windows. I distro hopped for a couple of years and tried lots and lots of different distributions and different desktops, but I find myself always coming back to Mint Cinnamon. Definitely my favorite. Elementary with the Pantheon desktop is good for new Linux users jumping from a Mac. Just not my thing, though.
