Hemorrhagic Stroke
Показать описание
A hemorrhagic stroke occurs when a blood vessel bursts and bloof leaks into the surrounding brain tissue. Surprisingly, this type of stroke is relatively rare (compared to the more common ischemic stroke) and it is only recently that studies have begun to better understand how hemorrhagic strokes impact the brain.
In an exclusive interview with CheckRare, Rajiv Ratan, MD, PhD, of the Burke Neurological Institute explains how this type of stroke is the more destructive of the strokes with 50% of patients who have a hemorrhagic stroke die and those that survive often have severe disabilities.
Fortunately, studies at the Burke Neurological Institute are underway to better understand how these strokes destroy neurons, and how that pathophysiology may eventually lead to a treatment.
