Confusing. Why cut away when explaining how to press the numbers ?

Begin with your keypad, it does not have to be installed before you begin programming. Press the asterisk (*) and hash (#) button on the keypad at the same time, hold until the keypad stops flashing.

While the keypad light is on enter your 4-digit pin and press the hash (#) button. Next enter your opener ID and press the hash (#) button again. You have 10 seconds to complete this step. If the light on the keypad turns off before you finish entering your pin or ID, return to step 1. 

After entering your pin and ID, go to the garage door opener and press and release the LEARN button.

Enter your 4-digit pin on the keypad and press the -0- button (for Genie and Overhead Door openers, press the -0- button twice). At this point your wireless entry keypad should be programmed.

Test your keypad by entering your 4-digit pin and follow by pressing and holding the -0- button until the door begins to operate.
