You are correct. The voices are spirits - good and bad. The bad ones are what we call demons.

They lead the soul into a darker path in their life- they make them do bad things that will taint their souls. They’re trying to make the soul dark.

There are spirits that are inside our bodies - they influence our thoughts, actions. The bad ones will always “test” us to do bad things- temptations. If you do it, then they will try it again.

We all have voices in our heads - the good ones are our conscience, the bad ones are our temptations. The bad ones will pretend to be good to deceive the soul.

It only comes out as voices to a select few, - a cloak is removed, as a form of karma, or it’s for them to be more aggressive to lead the soul into a darker road.
