Watching Dave's mailbag episodes is better than watching TV these days!

Hey Dave, I'm really glad you soldered the dice kit!

The beaut PCBs are from PCBCart. It's a shame the traces are hard to see, but it is probably for the best considering the board was laid out for ease of assembly, not for neat routing. :P

The kits only cost $3.20 each (inc battery) and we use them at high school events. The logo you touch to roll the dice is that of BLUEsat, an entirely ungrad group at UNSW designing a LEO satellite.

Cheers!

I've got about $300 USD worth of WIHA Screwdrivers. I've used them in a cell phone repair setting for at least a year now. Excellent screwdrivers!

Looking forward to the apple vs hong kong tear down.
I have been making LED arrays lately. I recently found the best way to solder LEDs for me
was to do exactly as you just showed us. Hahahaa... I'm not so dumb after all :)
Thanx for assembling that kit at the end. I liked seeing you clip the transistors from the tape.
I have always pulled them out and of course I'm left with crap on the ends. Guess
I can be a little dumb sometimes LOL. Please assemble lots more kits. I find it very helpfull

Those WIHA Screwdrivers are GRADE A! Rated/isolated for up to 1000V. I got WIHA for over 20yrs now. Excelent quality.

That "Apple" power adapter says "For use with infor technology equipment". I wouldn't expect Apple to make a mistake like that.

the swedish one at 26:35 - those stamps are arranged as a sequential zoom left-right... Nice!

When you leave the zip+4 code like that, it basically knocks it down to a single street.  It's pretty easy to find James.

Good mailbag this week. I really like when people send their personal or school projects in or when people send in useful stuff.

Close up view of butterfly wings. There's a clue on the stamps.

20:29 - a better design would be to replace the micro connector with a short cable terminated with a USB-A connector.

An optocoupler is usually a LED facing directly into a phototransistor. They are usually in dedicated IC packages but I believe the term would also be used to describe the same setup with an individual LED and phototransistor.

They are usually used to isolate 2 electronic circuits so (for example) if a high voltage fault developed on 1 side, the other side will be safe.

Indiana has the most Amish in the US that I have ever seen. They are a hard working bunch and do well with getting along with others. They make great wood products. I think I alread seen this mailbag, usually try to catch them all.

Yes, I think that's one of the perils of being madly in love with electronics, there's so much magic in this realm.

I always liked how HP put their logo on certain stuff...right in the corner where you wouldn't normally see it...

Wow I almost missed the bit at the end with the assembled kit. Yes, I would like to see some kit assembly with commentary, thank you.

I think for the schmartboard the arduino shield doesn't have the same grooves as their QFP etc adapters.. their promo videos show the grooves pretty clearly
