Cross multiplication
3x = 2y
Subtitute in 3x+5y = 420
7y = 420
Y = 60

Here is one more solution for this question.
3x+5y=420,
3x+y =84,
x+y = 28.
by putting values,
x/2+x/2= 28/2
x/2+x/2=14
2x/2= 14
x= 14
x/2, = 14/2, =7
7=y/3,
y=21
And here we got the values of x and y i.e., 14 and 21.

VERIFICATION

x/2=y/3
after putting the values of x and y
14/2=21/3
7=7
