Показать описание
Welcome to science at home episode nine, season three. In this episode we will be building the simplest electric train. The simplest electric train is another type of homopolar motor and it can also be called a magneto-electric train. The simplest electric train works by harnessing the magnetic field generated when a current passes through a coiled copper wire, to push and pull magnets on the train. This train is homopolar because its polarity is constant as it functions. By the end of this video you will be able to describe why the train moves, how magnetic forces can be used to do work and how to build the simplest electric train also known as a homopolar motor or magneto-electric train.

Equipment and Ingredients:
AAA Battery
14 to 18 Gauge Bare Copper Wire
Multiple Rare Earth Magnets
Broom Stick
Gloves
Lab Coat or Apron
Goggles

What would happen if you connect both ends of the copper wire?

hey i was just wondering if you could clearly explain how the polarity works here?

2:38 is copper coil necessary for movement or can I use a copper plate which is bent like a disected pipe

Isn’t the visual bar magnet orientation at 4:35 wrong?

Best video shows why simple electric train go ahead. We know how to fix it faster

Hi, will this work with two magnets glued south-to-south inside an enameled wire tube with an external power connected on the ends of the coil? Seems like a simple question, but I can't seem to figure if the forces outside the magnets will cancel those inside resulting in no movment.

Do you have to use rare earth magnets?

i think you messed up the polarity of the magnets at 3:12. Great video elseways!

doesnt it work with other magnets because of the strengh?

I have a question. Can you do this in a way to make it like an elevator? If so, what do I have to add/change?
Please respond quickly

can we use use aluminum instead of copper for this?

Will it work with a solid copper tube ?? Just curious…..

Can you tell me why aluminium wire isn't used for this? We were able to get the copper wire to work and make the train move forward. Then using the same gauge (18) aluminum wire and same battery, it seemed to reject the train and moved slightly backwards. We are having trouble finding why this might happen.

Can it also work with electro magnets?

Can diameter of wire has any effect on the overall experiment or does it should be between 14 to 18 gauge only or thin dia wire can do the job

Can we use aluminum wire or iron wire for this project

Would it work if you just put the magnet battery through copper pipes
