Показать описание
Welcome to science at home in this experiment we are exploring the fermentation between yeast and sugar. Yeast uses sugar as energy and releases carbon dioxide and ethanol as waste. Yeast and fermentation have been used for thousands of years when making bread. At the end of this episode you will be able to demonstrate fermentation, explain why yeast and fermentation make a balloon grow and explain the chemical reaction that occurs during fermentation.

Equipment and Ingredients:
Water
Yeast
Sugar
Balloons
Bottles

I have been fermenting 2 cups of sugar with one package of dried yeast in a half gallon of water for two weeks and refrigerating the product to settle the yeast for a week. I mix it with Bloody Mary or whiskey sour mix and I have a pretty nice drink. Actually, I drink it straight sometimes. I am 90 years old and it has not killed me yet!

No big deal, but the chemical formula in the video for sucrose is incorrect; the formula is actually for glucose. Sucrose is C12H22O11.
