Michigan No-fault Law has changed. Starting July 1, 2020, we are going to have to choose the type of PIP coverage that we want. Previously, PIP coverage was unlimited. If you were injured in an automobile accident in Michigan, your own insurance company had to pay your medical bills related to that accident for the rest of your life.

In an attempt to reduce costs, the State of Michigan has passed a reform that aims to reduce the high cost of auto insurance by reducing the amount of coverage that it affords. Whether this will actually save anyone a significant amount of money is yet to be seen. However, this new law will create more confusion and increase the potential that people unwittingly purchase inferior coverage that will not adequately protect them against auto accidents.

The new No-fault law now will make you choose between several different types of coverage. They are:

Unlimited PIP Coverage
$500,000 PIP Coverage
$250,000 PIP Coverage
$50,000 PIP Coverage
No PIP Coverage
